Took my mod 1 again yesterday and failed again
First time I failed as I touched the cone I was swerving around with my toe, other than that the examiner said it was perfect! Yesterday failed as I dabbed my foot down on the u turn, it seems so unfair as again I did everything perfectly! Feel very disheartened and so disappointed. Can't get in again for ages and my theory test runs out in September, my instructor said I will pass mod 2 no problem but need to nail mod 1 first. Gutted gutted gutted! Is it me or is this system stupid and unfair?? Becks

Given the risks of biking, if your bike control doesn't reach beyond not hitting cones and doing a proper U turn you're not really ready to ride solo on the public road, even if you can pass the mod 2. The low speed control tested in the mod 1 is important stuff.
I struggled with confidence on the U turns, I would feel like the bike was going to fall over half way round, but with some patience I got there in the end. Keep at it, you'll get it right eventually.

Takes practice - I struggled with the U turn too, as someone has said it feels like the bike is going to fall over. On the day as I turned I got the same feeling 'it's going over'. I thought, if I put my foot down I've failed, so I might as well take a risk. I squeezed the throttle a smidge which obviously increased my speed and stabilised the bike but widened my turn. I missed the second kerb by a millionth of a millimetre. My examiner described it as a 'just'

I'm afraid it's you.It's all about low speed control on the Mod 1 and you must reach the required level. Practice Practice Practice.
Can you get in anywhere else for the Mod 1 test? Might be worth the hassle traveling somewhere over redoing the Theory test again.
U-turns: find a 125cc bike and a carpark and go around and around in circles until you can hold the bars at the steering stop and keep going around in circles indefinitely.
I agree with the advice above on fixed throttle position and controlling the speed with the clutch and rear brake.
You should get the high speed work on Mod 1 right. One day you may need to use it.
Finally consider a different instructor. There is probably nothing wrong at all with your instructor but sometimes two people dont gel and you can have more success with someone different.

You obviously have never ridden a Triumph triple. I nailed the U-turn both times, the space was huge, however I dabbed my foot down on the figure of 8 and failed the first time.
To be honest its not a hard test to pass, however when you are learning it bloody can be, especially for me.
I was 45 miles away from the nearest test station, it was booked up months in advance.
I was doing lessons every second Saturday morning so when it came to do my test it was almost 2 weeks since I rode a bike.
I had to hire a van - £40
Fuel - £30
Day off work
Hire the bike for two hours - £54
Test - £15
Practice for the test - £54
Cost - £194 for a fail. I was a bag of nerves for that reason, I couldn’t afford to sit it again, sure enough I failed.
If I had failed a second time I would have gave up biking. Some will say its needed, personally I think that it’s a face, £300-400 would have been better spent on advanced training.

Passing your bike test doesn't make you a good biker and failing it doesn't mean you will be a bad biker or you're not cut out for it. A friend of mine failed her Mod 1 twice and finally passed on the third attempt. Knowing her, I believe she will go on to be an excellent and safe biker. Yes, some of the things you can fail on seem petty and a bit ridiculous, (FYI in 30,000+ bike miles so far I've never done a turn in the road without putting my feet down) but try not to get hung up on that as it's not productive.
The best thing you can do is re-book and try not to get too down about it. You'll pass eventually, best of luck!

Most people have already jumped on the opportunity to be bad cop, so I guess I'll have to be nice. I think the Module 1 test is best summed up as easy to pass, easy to fail. That said, the fact you clipped a cone, rather than ploughed into a fence, or binned it whilst braking, or crashed doing a swerve shows you can ride relatively safely. This is the primary purpose of the test before you're allowed on the ride with an examiner, however you must still reach the same required standard as most of us did. As mentioned the cone could have been something else.
Use the time. Get the cones out, get to a carpark. Practice. It's all well and being told you will pass your mod 2, but that doesn't mean bugger all until you do it, so get some time in there as well.
It'll be worth it in the end.
