Aprillia RS 125 advice.
Discussion
Just looking for abit of guidance..
I have a 2008 Aprillia RS 125 (2 stroke) with 3000 miles on the clock. I have had the bike for 3 years and have only ridden it once. I am now wanting to sell it but the bike will not start.
I have changed the battery and cleaned the air filter but cannot get it to start... It just ticks over.
Any ideas what it could be? I know nothing about bike engines.
I don't want to spend loads of money on it but have seen RS 125's going for nearly £2500 with more miles on than mine. I'm guessing it's because the 2 strokes are now sought after. I bought this bike 3 years ago for £1000!

I know cock all about 2 smokes but basic info
I presume you mean after fitting the new battery it now turns over. Changing the air filter wont really do much.
Firstly if its been stood for a while its not a bad idea to change the fuel petrol goes off but tbh that's probably not the issue.
Then check to see if you have a spark. TBF it sounds like your not sure how to do that do that so have a look on youtube bound to be a vid how to.
Maybe others on here might be able to offer better advice but that's where id start

Carbs probably gummed up, pull it off and clean all jets out, needle etc. other than that check it's got a spark which is dead easy..
If you don't have any luck/unsure what to do I don't mind popping round and having a look
Thanks very much for that but this bike is kept down south. I'm planning on bringing it to manchester though because I need to get rid of it.If you don't have any luck/unsure what to do I don't mind popping round and having a look

I should have added. A mate of mine checked the spark plug and it was black/fked, so I bought a new one and still nothing. The new spark plug also turned black.
A blackened spark plug, especially a brand new one, would suggest rich running. So it's likely the carb is gummed up, try cleaning it out and seeing if that fixes it by supplying the right amount of oxygen.Good luck getting the bike up and running as well, these are great bikes when they're working. The market seems to be all over for them, and just sauntering down Westgate Road in Newcastle, there were some dreadful RS125's up for £2500 (probably commanding a premium because the local yobbos at the west and east ends love tearing around on them after ade-restricting them). There are also some tidy ones are for considerably less.
A friend of mine had an RS125 Extrema as his first bike and still goes on about how good it was!

Take the fuel tank off, empty all the fuel and replace with some nice fresh Shell V-Power/Nitro, clean the carbs and ensure the jets aren't blocked. Might be worth removing and cleaning the plug if it's doesn't start the first few times to ensure it isn't gummed up each time.
If you haven't run the bike in a few years I'd be tempted to go to a bike mechanic as there is a chance that upon starting the bike it may be seized and you may do perminant damage.

Is there a large cost in this? I can't spend too much on it due to it only being worth about 2500 perfect. If you haven't run the bike in a few years I'd be tempted to go to a bike mechanic as there is a chance that upon starting the bike it may be seized and you may do perminant damage.

You're beyond that mate you've already tried firing it. He's right about putting new fuel in, but you'd know by now if it was seized!
Just clean the carb out with some fresh fuel and see if it runs.. Obviously check the oil in the autolube tank is ok too. Sounds like it's got a spark if it's blackened a new plug. Again it's worth cleaning the plug a few times while you're trying to fire it as if it floods you'll have no luck. But this is all stuff you can do yourself for pennies.
Failing that I'll sort it for you

Easiest way to get fresh fuel through is to spin it over with the plug out, once you've cleaned the carb and put a bit of fresh in the tank.
If you pour too much in the plug hole you'll just flood it or could even hydraulic it if you got carried away - not reaaaaaallly what you want.
