How are you liking your new bike William?

It looks lovely.......smile
Faultless. And not just that it hasn't broken, but the more time I've spent with it the more I see there's really noting I can do to make the bike better. No surprise the Indian accessory list isn't very big, and most of it is just styling. I haven't come across anything that looks built down to a price. The chrome is perfect. The build is spot-on. The quality of every single component is great and there are so many nice touches. I was sure I would like it (I bought it before any were available in the UK to test ride) but it has been a revelation. I've done 3000 miles since April in all weathers on everything from single track roads in the North of Scotland to motorways and it's just so capable.

So from a bit of initial concern buying a bike I hadn't ridden I'm very very pleased with it smile

Nice to see it's being used and not just a garage queen...

Have fun....smile

Meh.
It just looks like everything else in this genre out there. Budget components assembled into something that all other manufacturers produce too. Take the sticker off the tank and no one would know who had made it. And even fewer would care.

Sorry, I don't share your enthusiasm one bit!

Oh and the one at the end is a hard tail.
I have to disagree.. It is very in keeping with the Indian's of old and I have to add that looking over the Indian website the bikes are looking great and Polaris have done a lot of work in a short space of time... (If they were just using parts off the shelf they would have just used the Victory engines but they didn't)

How do you think this will be compare to a Harley Davidson sportser? I think the scout looks beautiful but think the harley will make a nicer sound smile
I think the Indian would be very different. Similar cc to a 1200 sportster but their engine has always been underpowered for what it is.. I would guess that you would had a fair bit more grunt and a bigger bike. Greater range and far more spec.. It will also have a much better ride IMHO.

It will also be a bit more expensive...

Love the all black 883iron and wish they had of done that in the 1200cc as I think it is a very sexy looking bit of kit. I was very disappointed with the ride. But in all honesty I am too tall for looking cool on a Sportster.. Lol

Putting the price difference to one side I would opt for the Indian.

I was speaking to my dealer (sounds bad, doesn't it?) this morning about the Scout and a few other things. Seems the Scout will be launched over here at the NEC Show, with bikes in the dealers hopefully sometime between January and March.

I think they look superb, and I reckon the nail has just entered the coffin of the Dyna range. H-D will struggle selling the 1200 Sportster as well, as it looks like the Scouts will be around £10,300. It may even kill the V-rod too. As I said earlier, if I was H-D, I'd be bricking it.

Bit of a bugger really, as Lorraine likes the look of them too, so her Bonnie might be going. The Scout weighs almost the same as her old XJR1300, but has a way lower centre of gravity. As Indian have just released the Roadmaster (I was waiting for the release of the top-box for the Cheiftain, now I don't have to bother) there may just be two Indians in the garage by next summer.

Glad to hear that Indians have the same build quality as the Victory, OK, they may be a bit more expensive, but look below the skin and you can see where the money was spent. Unlike H-D, where you can see where the money was skimped. That the new owner then has to be parted from in the infamous "Harley Tax", dressed up as "customising" or "personalising".

Now if Victory/Indian can get some get-togethers organised (that aren't £50 for a meal)................

Would be a shame to lose the Bonneville... Equally as classic...

I have a Victory and a Thruxton.. Would love to have the Indian Scott as well but just could not cut one of the other bikes from the man cave.

First ride report/video from some US journos...cool dude etc...

http://m.motorcycle-usa.com/155/18963/Motorcycle-A...

Interesting all the talk of marketing to new riders. I remember having a Z900 in 1976 and it was THE fastest thing pennies could buy, and major bragging rights with 82 horsepower since the Honda 750/Trident/Commando 850 were all sub 60hp and all classed as bikes suitable for only the hairy of chest.

This thing has 100hp.

Hell a Ducati 916 only has 14 more... Have 100hp bikes really gotten that easy to ride these days? My first 'big' bike was a Commando, and at maybe 60hp it scared me sh!tless until I got used to it...and I'd been riding for a couple of years.

Not going to happen , that's like saying"'that's it for suzuki/kawasaki/honda " as yamaha have bought out the latest greatest r1 ! Makes no sense especially the v rod which already makes over 14 hp more than the scout !

100hp bikes aren't scary, my 1996 1200 Bandit has 100hp (120hp when I put the Micron can on between MOTs...) and it's a pussycat to ride, my first big bike was a 1986 VFR750 back in Feb 1987 bought 6 months after I passed the test and we rode it back 80 miles two up on Valentine's Day with snow still on the pavements!

newer V-Rods are 125bhp (or more with the obligatory stage 1 tune), so 25% more power than the Scout...

I wouldnt choose the Scout over a VRod on anything other than price....if the Scout comes over here for sub £10k though, it may tempt 883 or Sportster buyers

Are the new Indian and V-Rod/Diavel really competitors?

I'd have had it more against the 1200 Sportster, that kind of 'sport' cruiser (ie one without panniers!) rather than 'muscle' cruiser (ie one that's designed to look like a modern/aggressive cruiser)...

HD must be terrified.

Victory Motorcycles revenue Q4 2013 $68.8 million
Harley Davidson revenue Q4 2013 $1.19 billion

Interestingly Polaris revenue Q4 2013 $1.08 billion

Yep, Definitely a 1200 rival, they're not gunning for the VRod with this. Sure there will be something else in the pipeline for the Power Cruiser segment.

Frustrating that the literal price exchange from USD to GBP puts it at £6.5k! Would be an incredible bargain. More likely to be nearer £10k as above though.

I wonder how much of the HD revenues are in clothing and accessories? Anyway, since Indians were only relaunched last August it's been pretty impressive from a standing start.
2012/13 no.of Indian Chiefs/Chieftains sold - 0
2013/14 no.of Indian Chiefs/Chieftains sold - est 10,000
2013/14 no.of HDs recalled - 25,000 with 'do not ride' + 3,000 this month
2013/14 no.of Indian Chiefs/Chieftains recalled - 0

As above, I'd rather have shares in Polaris than HD. Exciting times ahead. Absolutely nothing against HD and came oh-so-close to buying a new Road King...but it's nice to see some solid competition from the new kid on the block
