Ooh, just noticed this thread.
I don't think that the RSVR would be good choice for a trip like this (think sore back and wrists), especially having to go back to work the next day and not wanting to walk like John Wayne. But the VTR will be a good alternative.
I've not ridden outside of the UK before, what is required?
Also i've have a range of about 80 - 110 miles per tank on the VTR, will this be an issue?
VTR is fine but if we find some top roads you might just regret not bringing the RSVR... I'd like to but not sure the RSV4 would be the ideal long distance bike due to it's appealing comfort and fuel economy.
I did 300 miles with a full Kreiga R35 on my 2008 ZX6-R a bit of pain, but so much fun on the twisties! It's one day, how much fuel can you use in a day? Besides I only get about 120 max to a tank, so I'm sure I'll be dictating the fuel stops! Bring the RSVR!!You know you want to...
Is this a closed group or can anyone join in??
I quite fancy the idea of a big day trip (although would prefer the Chunnel, but hey if the ferry is cheaper and I can have breakfast.....) The only things that worry me are
1) it'll rain, which I hate riding in, because I err, hate riding in the rain and I hate my bike being mingling dirty..
2) the riding pace - only back on the bike since January after a 12 year break, so still finding my feet again.
On a positive note: I have the pass required from the OH to go
Decisions decisions...

The RSV4 sounds comfy. Did 2000 fast miles on a 1098R with full Kriega R30, and it was just awesome. Just don't sit on the RSV4 at 40mph... instead ride it like it's meant to be ridden and you'll be fine Wildfire said:

120 Miles between stops would be bliss, the V4s are so thirsty!!, I did a similar distance a few Years ago on a CBR 600 RR and while I did feel it a bit at the end of the day I had great fun.You know you want to...

No idea how many miles, but it was a lot with the bike loaded up like this, before the puncture came:-
It was fine!
Bump! It's now getting closer so who's still up for an end of season Euro ride? Just need a passport, insurance and a tank or two of fuel!
All of the the return crossings via Eurotunnel are full so the ferry is the only option. Looking at the times there is only 30mins difference between the two anyway. At the moment the return fare is £16.00 but this might go up as we start to book.
Once I have numbers I will call P&O to try and get a group booking at a fixed rate. This ride is happening and anyone is welcome. Slow, fast, young, old, fat or thin, male or female!

Sooooo tempted if i can convince Mrs Crash to manage new puppy for the day. I'll have no sat-nav, and presumably will just need my passport, wallet and insurance docs?
- sorry, just realised i'm at a wedding the night before on the Isle of Wight so it's a no-go.

I and a friend could be interested in this!
I'd be coming from Hertfordshire so if anyone is coming from a bit further north could meet at South mimms service station.
The ZXR has 100 mile tank range and may get a bit hurty, the BMW is complete opposite but doesn't like going over 70mph.
Will update as soon as I know a definite answer

Rather than blast around all day we've decided to head down to Ypres and have a look around the WW1 trenches. We will cut across country between Dunkirk and Poperinge and then into Ypres. Afternoon tea will be somewhere along the D108 which follows the river into Lille. Then across country back to Calais which is a total Euro distance of around 150miles. Add the UK miles to that and it's enough for one day.
Six confirmed so far, 2 x GS , 1 x ninja, 1 x 1000 Versys, 1 X VFR, 1 x Multistrada

Did you need a bike? I'm selling the works Fazer so you could have that on "trial" I'm sure even a weeks insurance on that will be peanuts to someone like you :-) (House sale pending)
