1981 was when I sold my ped.

On my 16th birthday I was out on it all day and it seemed like a real luxury after years on a pushbike smile Wouldn't want to back to it now though.

My first bike was an RD50. Although it wasn't 50cc for long. A 65cc 'kit', tuned pipe and a bigger main jet made it much more agreeable. It was good for around 55mph and I rode it everywhere. Fond memories from many years ago.

30 years ago on my 16th birthday a brand new rd 50mx in march and snowing, parents made me wear a high vis vest and all the gear and it was snowing biggrin , I remember running it in for a 1000 miles lol.

3 months later behind my parents back I had an allspeed exhaust and a big bore kit on it along with different sprockets wink

I've had two at different periods of my life:

1 - when I was 16, a MBK Nitro (if I remember rightly) bought for £270 that I tinkered with constantly. Big bore kit, cut the silencer off the exhaust (was a tad loud...), etc. Got an indicated 50mph out of it, before I stripped the drive belt one day. Was hilarious.

2 - at college years later bought another one as it was cheaper than getting the bus and I couldn't stand the traffic. Did fiddle with that one as well, but after destroying cylinder lining for second time I put it back to standard, sold it to a guy who was going to use it as a paddock bike (Aprilia Area 51 dontchaknow??) and have never looked back.

I'd probably buy another too just to mess about with, make it silly quick to annoy people on my commute.

I also was banned from having a moped at 16, had to wait until I was 17 to put my TS125C on the road.

However, I did have one of these when I was about 7 years old:

It was a bit of a slug even then, single speed transmission with just a centrifugal clutch and a very softly tuned Morini two stroke engine. A friend had a similar looking Italjet that was a lot quicker.
