Right I have now passed my MOD 2 so have a full license. I have just bought a 650 bike and need to insure it but I would like to get all of my cars and bikes on 1 policy is that possible?

They consist of A 1979 RD250, a 2011 Kawasaki ER6N, 1996 Ford Maverick and a 1973 Triumph TR6

Carol Nash can do the 2 bikes on one policy for £400; the TR is currently on a classic policy at £160 and the Maverick on normal car insurance at £420.

My daily car is a company car.

Also another question, can anybody recommend a retro fit security device that would help with the insurance on the bikes?

Thanks

You're probably better off keeping them all separate.

Security devices tend not to attract much of a discount nowadays. Think of anything you buy as protecting your excess and NCD rather than getting an extra discount.

I'll second that, last time I tried a multicar (with a naval based company) they said a classic wasn't a problem. The backtracking when the classic description included the phrases 'Landrover', 'modified' and 'under 25' were hilarious.

I've got the bike with one, Landie with another and the 2 dailies with Direct Line - no multicar but they were willing to give me a discount as I had a policy with them already.

Very few insurers will cover cars and bikes on one policy, those that would would likely charge so much that it's more cost effective to keep them separate...

As for getting cheaper insurance, it depends on the bike but I've been riding seven years and was pleasantly surprised to get ~£50 off the RC8 policy for installing £20 worth of AlphaDot...

Purely out of interest, why?

I can understand, say, home insurance being separate from car insurance, because they're totally different things requiring very few similar considerations, risks or associated skills. Cars and bikes, on the other hand...

Few insurers cover both bikes and cars and those that do are more specialised and therefore not overly interested in mainstream cars, which most people drive (even on here).

Bike insurance is still dominated by brokers with few direct insurers. Car insurance marker. Is the opposite. Car insurers not interested in direct underwriting. It's a niche market best left to brokers to battle your for not a lot of money in the bigger scheme.
