I'd disconnect it and see if it still goes flat, then you'll know if it's the batt or the bike.

Sorry for the delay - here are the comparative figures for you...

Before start - Key off - Kill switch activated - lights off: 12.56v
Before start - Key on - Kill switch activated - lights off: 12.53v (and dropping)
Before start - Key on - Kill switch deactivated - lights off: 12.33v (and dropping)
Before start - Key on - Kill switch deactivated - lights on: 11.87v (and dropping)
Starter engaged (lights on): varies between 5 and 10v
Running - lights on: 14.4v (stabilises after about 30 secs)
Running - lights off: 14.55v
Off - Key off: 13.3v and slowly dropping

ETA: all above measured across the battery terminals - 2004 CBR600F

Does sound like a fooked batt, but something must be killing them.

I killed a new one once in about 6 months due to not looking after it, letting it deplete too far etc.

Taking it to a garage to get a use of their battery tester would settle it once and for all. If you ask nicely they may not even charge.

Thanks very much guys for all of your advice. I had the alarm removed and the battery replaced (even once the alarm was removed it was too far gone). So far so good smile hopefully all sorted now. No other gremlins were noted, just minor chain adjustment, an additional spacer added to the centre stand mount and an extra cable tie to route the scottoiler without any potential fouling.
