Scotland Road Trip advice please

Hi all

Looking for recommendations on places to camp or hostel anywhere in the Dumfries Galloway , Ayrshire upto Oban area , preferably not to remote ,i.e walking distance to at least a pub.

Going on Monday from Derby .

Any advice welcome.

Wallamhill House is a cracking B&B, highly recommended. http://www.wallamhill.co.uk

Bridge of Orchy Hotel used to do really good venison steaks and had a cheapy bunk house out the back.
(This was upwards of ten years ago though...)

Crosskeys hotel in New Galloway is biker friendly & a lovely place to stay.

+1 for Crosskeys - stay there was spot-on..

We coudln't fault the place either, except it was cold as Mrs Hooli spent most the night out the window on the flat room watching the stars

It's a black sky area, so offically a brilliant place to see stars etc.

Just make sure you take the correct currency .
