Well clearly easily confused! By that I mean me!

Anyway, Thanks Nigel for seeing why I was a bit confused.

I suppose the best bet is a CBT on a 125, ride the 125 until I hate it or love it, then move onto a bigger bike after passing a full bike license, then move onto a 250, then perhaps a 600? Per the suggestion above?

Thanks

That would be my advice, being an older chap who from 16 did the 50cc, 250cc, test pass, 500cc, then 850cc.

I now poodle around on a 500cc again.

Others who have done the modern direct access stuff disagree .

You do whatever you feel better doing.

Depends how confident and interested you are really. If it's just for commuting through town then a 125 does the job but runs out of puff quickly on a more open road, however they're a great way to build up some experience before spending the money on a DAS (or whatever the equivalent is now they've changed it again) and a bigger bike. My Mrs went this route and pottered around on a 125 for a year before doing her test and getting a 600. However if you're keen and get the hang of it quickly there's a good chance you'll get bored of a 125 pretty quickly.

Looks pretty clear to me, provisionally being the important word.
Really ?

From that text I can understand his confusion, it says he can provisionally ride any sized motorcycle, with or without a sidecar.

It doesn't say he has to be supervised, and it doesn't say he may ride one below 125cc unsupervised.
Snap, it's not clear unless you know the other rules regarding it all.

True, but he cannot do that on a CBT, which is what the original post was about.
Indeed but many people have suggested he does his bike test
