Only just seen this thread but am hopefully my contribution will be a big help.
When I started riding I bought a £100 agv. Wasn't very nice but was a helmet to start with. 6 months ago I upgraded to the shoei xr1100. Wednesday night it stood up to what it's made for. I seriously don't think my agv would have done such a good job. Admittedly I was knocked out and have concussion but that's expected. Will let my next two pics finish this story.

Edited to add that I will definitely be buying another one
I must have missed the marky1983 binned it thread.

Get it up

Glad you're alright and no disprespect meant.

...But unless you fancy repeating the exact accident you've no way of knowing how your AGV would have held up.

That's why anecdotal evidence isn't worth owt in these kind of discussions.
Indeed. All you can say is that the Shoei did its job.
No offence taken. What you say is correct. Its hard to compare the two unless under test like that. In having ridden with only the two lids the difference is noticeable though. Me personnaly would never go back to the £100 lid, and that was my opinion before i crashed it, not because of the impact.

How much is that one?
If it's the one I'm thinking of, it's priced at £599 at most places. They are just wondrously good though, I've popped one on my bonce and it was amazing.
Really, I can only find them at £799.99?

That's the price in actual shops, I thought I'd seen them cheaper online. Oh well, it is a top flight helmet, but £799 is a lot of money!

In some accidents the weight of your helmet will break your neck by increasing the centrifugal force generated by your head. So that's one reason for buying an Arai carbon one - it's the lightest Snell-certified currently available full face helmet. I think it weighs about 1200 grams, but I can't find a figure from Arai or from a review. BMW used to sell a carbon Sportintegral helmet which was only 1000 grams but it's been withdrawn. It was priced at 1250 euros.
