It must of been a slow 45,000 miles if you were constantly asking people if they liked your exhaust noise.

As highligted here, the vanity pipe brigade genuinely believe that people like to hear their racket. They don't realise that the vast majority of people think they're selfish morons.

It's fascinating that you would make such a comment. Have you yourself not posted about exahust upgrades to to your M5 only being worth the extra noise if they make an extra 10% power. So it's ok to make more noise with a car in the pursuit of extra ponies, but apparently not for a bike??

Greenhouses/Stones spring to mind??

hehe

Nice. Like it!

Back onto the point though - the usual retort to this is that most car drivers live in such an isolated world that it is shocking the lack of awareness that they have for bikers. Maybe its extreme, but extreme situations lead to extreme measures. That louder exhaust and those bigger lights make it easier to see and NOT HIT the rider - maybe its valid or maybe its distracting, doesnt matter in reality.

My view - its a fossil fuel burning thing and thats a good thing. If its loud, thats even better...

Crikey you're going back a bit I sold my (standard) m5 in 2005 I think. Was looking for more power options but decided since exhausts are sold only on sound it seems it was pointless trying to find power there.

Not really, i've read many of your posts over time seeing as your a fellow Porsche (GT) driver.
But you get my point. If the Akrapovic pipe for the M5 released an extra xxx bhp, you'd accept the noise that accompanied it, whereas noise alone wasn't an acceptable justifiction (absolutely fair enough). However, if someone puts a pipe on their bike and (maybe) releases a few extra ponies in the process with the by product of some extra noise, you seem somehow annoyed.

Can you see the contradiction???

I cringe with embarrassment for the rider with the poorly fitted HIDs. They just look so tacky.

In terms of exhausts, it depends on the exhaust and the bike. A house brew 50mm stubby on a GS500 is disgraceful, but an Austin Racing system on an RSV4 is to be applauded. In short, all owners should mail me with their ideas for exhaust mods, and I will approve or disprove them. Job done.

Poor rant if I am honest. It wasn't colorful enough not creative enough in its disemboweling of your quarry.

On the subject of exhausts... I enjoy a decent pipe. I also enjoy the fact if someone isn't looking in their mirrors the pipe allows them to hear the approach of my bike with Mr Akrapovic signalling my arrival, with the suggestion that you should get fk out my way. smile

My MTS is running a stock exhaust presently and requires a decat and Termi's to let the L-Twin love out.

Not a big fan of aftermarket HID's but there is nothing wrong with using effective bulbs which light your way.

I've got HID lights fitted on the Blackbird. Not for vanity reasons, but because the standard dipped beam is so poor, and I genuinely couldn't see where the hell I was going at times. It's a 4300k so looks like a normal bulb colour, just [a bit, not a lot] brighter.
The internet is apparently a hive of busybody haters, but in the real world I've never had any issues.

Vanity HIDs did make me laugh. Anyone who rides a bike at night or in crap weather knows they are actually bloody useful things to upgrade.

+1 I put some on my YBR to make sure I could see the road after sunset.
