If they're touching the lining of your helmet they're you're not putting them in right - have a look at this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SPNPZJingZA
- you shouldn't be able to see them from the front, if inserted correctly they'll be nowhere near the helmet lining.
This is a great link, thanks! I've never been able to put them in properly.

Just bought a new bike, will be wearing them from now on.

mmm...after a recent hearing test and being told I should be wearing hearing aids, I can concur that years of loud music and riding motorcycles without earplugs, obviously has a detrimental effect on the hearing

...mind you, convertible cars with the roof off at motorway speeds are not much better

oh well, at least ive got enough hearing range left to hear a crap quality phone call and hopefully they can do some noise cancelling dual purpose plugs I can wear in my helmet.....

From since I was a 21 year old kid the one thing that annoyed me about road motorcycles was the wind noise, I switched to off road shortly after and wind noise was not so much of an issue due to the lower speeds, but since I started to ride road bikes again in my mid thirties, ear plugs are my best friends, and have made riding motorcycles much more enjoyable, regardless of the helmet, hope that helps
