This. I'd go with P1200 but you might need something a bit lower as it looks quite rough so may just clog. Don't forget to get the residue off with a soft cloth afterwards. Not an expert but I'd do a layer of paint on the damaged area then do a lighter coat on the whole thing.
It'll be fine mate, it's not a big section.
Reduces scratching by lubricating slightly. Gets rid of a very fine layer, so if you've made a tit of a very very thin amount (like orange people) you can try and remove just that.
That's just my experience of it. I could be totally wrong, I've only done it a couple of times on ready painted surfaces to give them a bit of polish.
