I want to ride a bike but don't fancy riding around cars on a road, if I got a CBT would I be able to ride on a track or would I need a full licence? And if I got a 125cc licence would I be able to ride a 500cc bike at a track?

No. Full licence needed.

The road laws don't apply on a private track, so yes you would be able to. Whether or not they will let you is another thing ...

either full licence or get an ACU race licence instead.

Well there's some very wrong advice.

With the exception of the MSV circuits (Oulton, Cadwell, Brands, Snetterton & Bedford) you don't need a licence at all. Having said that it'd be a good idea if you could actually ride a bike before venturing onto circuit, for yours and others safety.

Nice dig about riding on the roads too, very dismissive way to describe it.

I'm pretty sure the 11 year old Stacey storm that duffed me round the outside of turn 2 at Anglesey didn't have a licence. frown

Loons advice is obviously the correct one.

It was some time ago now, but I recall Ron Haslam being 'nicked' for riding on the road with no licence back in his racing days...

Unless you're on a derestricted two stroke, I would imagine riding a 125 on a track would be pretty miserable anyway.

I dunno as long as it was level, tight and twisty smile

Didn't one poster on here claim to get with a couple of secs of a BSB time because he never had to shut the throttle when riding a CBR125?

I had a laugh round Cadwell on a CD200-T Benly once... All of 16hp.

Wasn't the slowest either. About a minute off BSB pace though. wink

It is at knockhill for track days. A guy was turned away as he only had his paper part at a session I was at.

TO the op can you even ride a bike?

Or read my answer correctly and realise I'm saying you don't need a license for a private track (obviously there are some exceptions). But hey, don't stop reading comprehension, or lack of it, from letting you be a dhead.

Unfortunatey the only person looking like a dhead here is you.

Yes, you DO need a licence for a private track, be it either road or race. Even those tracks where you do not require any sort of licence (very few and far between) Wont be allowing it from 2015....

Right, so that's the opposite of LoonR1's advice you said was correct?

Call the trackday company and see what they say. At minimum you should be able to get a ACU competition licence which will allow you to ride.

Even that is not as simple as an eye test and a form nowadays, you have to have on track course & all sorts.

Which is good TBH, stops people who have never ridden just getting a race licence and jumping on a track.
