If you were 'wearing through the panniers' you'd have crashed; even if an ST13 falls over it won't land on them due to the engine crash bars

The ST11 less so but the '13 handles a lot better in bends than many (if not most) people expect - it's the high-speed stability in a straight line that lets it down but whether you'd get near that speed riding one on a track is another matter.
