Where does the 68bhp figure come from? I thought, Moto3 bikes were putting out mid-50s?
HRC quote 68bhp for the 2014 nsf250f.A boggo straight from the crate 2013 nsf250f (as run by typical uk Motostar lads) has 52 with some tinkering, as proved by young Storm Staceys bike, supplied by padgetts brand new from the crate.
Joe Irving did the silverstone round with his usual 2013 Moto3 KTM bike, and was 15bhp down on the works KTM's, at there own admission.
PS, the Red Bull Rookies KTM's are specced to 45bhp at the wheel and barring failure dont come apart all year.
PS, agree on your point ref McCoy, however the gap is a lot bigger between Moto3 & MotoGP than 125 to 500's (quote)
Actually Craig the gap isn't bigger. The Red Bull Yamaha 500GP bike had no traction control, no GPS smartware, no variable injection and was a real beast to ride.
Modern Moto-GP bikes - unlike the original 990s - are actually quite civilised if you ask the riders. The biggest thing is to learn about the Bridgestones as apparantly they "feel like stone" to anyone who has been brought up on Dunlops. Being young, enthusiastic and unafraid will help young Jack Miller to adapt, but it will still be a bit of a leap.

Not that I doubt your sincerity nor your exemplary paddock-geekery but where's the quote from HRC on that? Seems like a significant jump - to my mechanical ignorance, at least. 2013 KTMs were quoted to be 54bhp (perhaps, that was factory/crate-spec?), which suggests that the current factory bikes are putting out 69bhp (that's using your Joe Irving-figure). The regulations haven't changed much (spec ECU and 14000rpm limit in particular) so it is quite something that they are getting so much out of engines which are already pretty sophisticated.
I will try and find Nakamoto-san's quote for the new nsf, i think it was around Austin time.
Going back to the KTM, remember, they are not finding 15bhp all in one go, its a continual evolution, and massive investment!
