OK, I'll start ....

Fecking awesome street machine, looks and sounds glorious like all Ducatis, especially with some Termis fitted ....

Nothing Ducati have ever made has been a bad bike, just a bad choice by the buyer if they buy something that doesn't fit.

I have had a Monster, I have size 10 feet and at the time weighed nearly 17st, there was nothing wrong with the riding position at all, had there been I would have bought something else !!!

In the article he says they feel insubstanstial because he is 6ft but the bigger engined ones are ok, is that because his cock is actually too small to allow him to buy the lesser engined machine thereby requiring the 'cc extension' ... as dmensionally they are all the fecking same !!!

The 748's were pants bikes, especially compared to ZX6Rs that raced alongside them, but never dominated them !!!!

I love all this 'design over function' bks, I've done well over 100k miles on Ducatis and not had an issue, you lot ride 2000 miles a year on your Yamakawaondssukis and think you are in a position to judge.

Stick to polishing and leave the riding the the well informed.

(That ok Loon ? Dibs x)
Better, but not quite there, it somehow feels a bit forced and justified. You're supposed to write stuff like this:

Riding a Ducati Is like making lurve to a beautiful woman. First you see it from a distance and get drawn in by her beauty. Then when you get up close you realise it's a bit tatty and bits are falling off, but you justify that as character. Then you take her for a ride and you realise it's uncomfortable, jerky and a bit rougher than you actually wanted. Still, you stick with her and after a few months she starts to drain your wallet and spend more time at her exes place than yours (the dealership).
But I've never had any bits fall off mine !!!!!

You bought the wrong bike. First ride should be 600 or less (preferably 125..) 1200 is stupid. You wont use all the power and have chicken strips.
Good point. Taken your advice and sold everything with an engine I can't use to full power-potential on the road. Seem to only be left with a 2CV. Damn.

748, Air cooled? confused

Then you've got a Friday afternoon bike, as all Ducatis are broken when they leave the factory. I think it's badged as "character". If yours doesn't break then you ought to take it back as it's lacking character.

Gotta say that i find my aircooled pearl white/red frame 1100s monster so much prettier. The air cooled bikes have such charm to them its a shame they no longer can meet the emissions laws.

I always thought the 916 and 748 were aircooled but stand as always to be corrected. Regardless the 748 ran very hot about town.

I had a 748 and would describe it as one of the best handling bikes I've riden, and the first I ever got my knee down on ( it was a lo g time ago...)
Ducatis take a bit of getting used to, they're not always better but they all give a certain something jap 4s don't.
My 2p :-)

I recently became a born again biker after a decade of no bikes at all and never owned anything that wasn't a jap sports bike. I went for a ducati 696+ as it's a good all-rounder and looks different to everything else around here. I think it's brilliant and a rewarding ride when you get used to it. I'm on it for commutes, meetings, weekend blasts, everything I can, and having so much fun. Never wanted a ducati before but don't think il ever sell this one!

For these Ducatis with the stupid big one piece rider + pillion pegs, some aftermarket rearsets come with bolt on pillion pegs.

Was thinking of a monster for a second bike but my 899 pani does it all for the road (probably crap on a track) - ride all day comfort, fun to ride, easy in town/filtering, looks amazing and sounds amazing.

You're kidding, the 899 Pani is an awesome track weapon, it picks up where the 848 left off, great handling and enough power to be ballistic without the scary power of the 1199 if you aren't a biking god like most of the self proclaimed lot in here ....

It looks frankly awful.

Love my 1200, but then I'm just the kind of ignorant, new-to-bikes, slow-riding, looks-driven, almost-middle-aged wally that fits the Ducati cliché.

So that probably compounds the issue for those who hate them.
Thats me but sustitute old fart for almost middle aged. Just had Termis fitted to my 1200s.Fantasic fun bike.
I guess you care less about what others think as you get older....and have a modest amount of money that you dont want to leave to the kids smile

Water cooling is ugly unless they use all metal pipes which is expensive. That footpeg thing is hardly a Ducati special, I can't ride GSX1400s with the centre stand on as it gets in the way of my foot. All bikes are designed for dwarves these days.

A tubular steel trellis frame is supposed to look like that.
Indeed. Which Is why I made this particular comparison as opposed to "This bike looks like a bottle of original lucozade."
