POLITE - Hi-Vis Vest

If you think about it, the police have a vested interest in not banning them. You have the effect of more police on the road from the mistaken identity of these guys, with zero cost to the police budget. It's a complete no brainer really.
.....right up to the point the standard of riding is analysed and it turns out plod (who are rightly proud of their biking skills) don't actually like being represented by a self-righteous beardy weirdy IAM Demi-god with poor eyesight, a Daily Mail take on right and wrong and a test that was taken when the AA still saluted their members.black-k1 said:

This, of course, is not a generalisation based on intolerance! I could've said an unconfident scooter riding idiot who thinks fooling people in to thinking he/she is something they're not is a credible route to safer biking.

Doesn't have the same ... venom!
the polite sticker on the screen of the bike traveling in the opposite direction on Tuesday on the A5 is really taking the piss
if you feel the need to rely on that type of material to make you less likely to have an accident/make you more visible then stay in bed and wrap up in cotton wool/bubble wrap

Been discussed numerous times. It normally goes like this;
You will be decidedly agreed with.
Then someone will mention horse riders.
Then the conversation will degrade into berating horse riders for their perceived lack of consideration.
People will discuss how they then show horse riders no consideration and brag about it.
The irony will be lost.
Someone will mention "they don't pay road tax"
Someone else will point out that isn't what road tax is actually for (usually me) and they do actually pay to use the roads.
Someone will join the conversation late and mention the police having not disapproved of these vest.
I die a little inside.

The people who buy these really must be dumber than frogs or pure impersonation.
High Vis = high contrast and reflective elements.
Reduce either one and it is less 'high vis'.
Getting a tin of black paint and splodging some over the back of the vest reduces the visibility, therefore reduces effectiveness.
Black writing == same effect as black splodge == less effective.
So, either bikers with them are that stupid they should not be in charge of a motor vehicle, or they are not stupid and therefore know fine well that the safety factor (of buying these vs. a plain vest) is negative, so their reason is nothing to do with safety.
Can we get some made with "I'm With Stupid" and a big arrow so when we see one we can stop right next to them to have a "chat"?
And then ride off in a direction where they'll then see it.

Sorry to drag this up again but the cretin who designed this was on dragons den recently and managed to get some funding to make more.
She was asked specifically if the police have a problem with it and said no, a quick google throws up a letter from the assistant chief constable of the mounted devision of avon and somerset police to the British Horse Society stating that he believes they are designed to impersonate police officers but it would require case law through the courts to get a definative answer.
The website for the company shows a picture of a biker wearing a vest in front of an R1 and even in their own picture you could mistake the rider for a police officer at a quick glance.
