Kept pretty dry this morning but suspect the journey home may be less pleasant. Have to say that with waterproof over layers on its not so bad and better than any of my other commuting options (which would involve 40 minutes walking through a deluge).

I find high gusty winds to be the scary bit and particularly bad when combined with wet, greasy and partially flooded roads.

Bike was out this morning so thought fk it and jumped on.

Didn't get wet - my old HG textiles that have been all around the world with me did me proud. Didn't have the thermal layers in which I may regret tonight! Treated myself to some Sidi boots last year (or year before maybe...) which are still excellent in the rain - totally dry socks.

The only bit that is horrible is the cuff of my jacket gets wet before the waterproof bit meaning when I take my gloves off my wrists get a bit damp/wet. I'm being a tad picky however!!
My HG Gortex textiles are still going strong - I bought them at the same time as I got my blackbird. July 2008 30kmiles all weathers almost everyday commuting 6 winters in London so far too, 5 euro summer tours. In torrential rain for multiple hours they have just started to let water in around the stomach area - last tested August Bank Holiday Monday. The jacket pocket zips are starting to fail. I have a new replacement bought when HG UK had their first going under sale waiting to be put into action soon.

Boots not an issue Daytona Roadstar Goretex 4th pair (over the course of 14years) - these boots only start to leak a bit when very used/worn and ready for the bin

I took mines on my 15 mile commute to work today. It's dry in Glasgow, and I was nice and toasty with my HG textiles and heated grips.

Did 120 miles at about 6:30 this morning into central London. There was not a massive urgency for me to come into the office but I picked up a new set of textiles yesterday and wanted to give them a whirl.

The novelty has warn off now and i am dreading this ride home with wet boots! arrghhhh

Nearly got blown over on the M4 which was worrying.
Was quite blowy on M4 this morning, by heathrow on the elevated bit, but it's only water for the rest of it.

My trusty HG cruise II saw me through and my sealskinz motorbike gloves let in no water all, last year I bought a rooster snood (sailing equipment) and no no leaks at all in my outfit so it's no great shakes unless ground spray terrible then visibility suffers. Bike has ABS and traction control and is still a lot faster than going in by car or train, just a bit longer to get ready. It's much different from back in the day before gore-tex everything.

I was at home today, but felt a bit miserable mid afternoon so fetched one of the bikes and had a quick blast down to the Ace Cafe and back. Pissing rain and lots of filtering, what's not to like? I did have a slightly damp tshiirt when I got back. stty HG zips.

Just got mine fixed after 10 days off the road; snow would have stopped me riding in this morning, but a bit of rain didn't stand a chance wink

yup I always commute rain or shine! Nice bit of wheelspin on the gsxr10000 to keep me on me toes...

I normally use a scooter in crap weather but it'd got a bent disk I've got to swap over.

Oh dear. Contents of my inside pockets are also damp. Hopefully just the 'waterproof' front zip failing and water migrating inwards, not the membrane giving up. Don't particulalry want to lose the best part of £2k on Rukka gear. Load of arse. frown

Edit 'cos this fkwit can't spell 'lose'.

Had a much better time coming home. It was dry, for one thing! The only other car on my side of the road this morning was some crappy Micra which disappeared before the end of the first leg. It was as windy as fk but nothing too terrible.

I'm on the bike today and very impressed that my waterproofs totally worked so nothing, not even my collar, was wet after an almost 2 hour run in. This will be my last week though and I'll be on the cattle trucks train next week.
Which ones?
I need to replace my winter gear.
My gear is a Spada 2 piece over suit (non-breathable so "boil in the bag" if it's warm) Daytona Gore-Tex boots, Held Gore-Tex gloves and a Bikes ST Aqua Gore-Tex balaclava. All this over my BKS leathers. The Gore-Tex neck on the balaclava is what makes the difference. I find normal rain resistant neck buffs tend to wick the water down under the waterproof layer after about 20 minutes. The ST Aqua doesn't.

ETA I've just re-read your post. That's not my winter gear. I have a Hein Gericke Master suit for when the temperature regularly drops into single figures. It's also totally waterproof when used with the ST Aqua balaclava

Who will be the appropriate replacement for the hole where HG used to be gear wise though. (assuming you don't want to sell a kidney for Rukka). Suspect y HG jacket will need replacing after this winter.

You can still buy it from Germany if you want. Their top range Master suit is €600 all in at the moment which might buy you a Rukka hanky...

I suspect the Rukka hanky would keep me drier.
