As per title really.

I've had a few Schuberths now - the last being an S1 which is coming up to 5 years old and has been used almost daily in that time for my daily commute (approx 100 mile round trip).

So it's time for a change, but I'm torn between an S2 which is the logical successor to my S1, or the SR1 which looks to have better ventilation.

It's the latter point that is my only gripe with the S1 and as the S2 looks very similar in this regard, with vents seemingly designed for low noise rather than decent airflow, I'm concerned that I'll have the same issues. The SR1 on the other hand, looks to have a better, more direct mouth vent and less 'collar' at the front of the lid so therefore better airflow and (hopefully) less fogging? The SR1 is noisier as a result, but as I wear earplugs anyway that's not a huge issue. The only other downside of the SR1 is that apparently the fit is very tight getting it on (befitting a 'race' helmet) which could be a drag having to use daily. It does have D-rings rather than the clip/catch arrangement on the S2s which I've never been a fan of.

Pro's of S2 seem to be - logical successor to S1, quiet, integral sun-visor (not that I use it much as it tends to fog up alot!) maybe a better 'commnuter' option
Pro's of SR1 seem to be - better? ventilation, lighter, looks better smile

Anyway, I'm rambling.

Has anyone had experience of both who could give an informed review of the merits (or otherwise) of each?

My dad had an S1 which he loved and got an S2 to replace it. He isn't a fan of the S2, says it's noisier and the wind blows it around a lot. He's got an Arai Viper which he prefers and is getting a quantum ST to use as his main helmet from now on.

I have an SR1, which I'm very happy with, apart from the fit, so I'm getting rid. I had it 'professionally' fitted, but it just doesn't quite feel snug enough around the sides when riding, despite feeling ok in the shop.

I'm tempted to get another, but in a medium this time, if I can get a good deal somewhere.

Interesting as most people complain they're too tight! smile

I'm on my 3rd Schuberth, so seem to have a suitably shaped head (Large if you must know smile ). I gather the SR1 is a bit of a squeeze to get on, mainly due to the collar. I seem to remember my S1 was like this, but got much better over time after spreading the straps when pulling over my head. Now it goes on like a glove and even after years of almost daily use it feels nice and snug (but smells like an ferrets undercarriage hehe )

Obviously the best way is to go and try them on - but is a right pain es as nearest stockist is hours away.

It's a wee bit of a squeeze to get on, but once on I'm now just not happy with the lateral movement.

The medium that I tried was just stupidly tight, so in reality its probably a helmet I'd just never actually be happy with.

Will be sticking to Shoei's in future.

Tribal you do know you can just buy the cheek pads? They're about £65 but that's cheaper than a new lid so might be worth a go.

Good idea and I was hopeful for a minute, but they just appear to be standard sizes, not variable. Mine's actually an XL, so it comes with the thicker of the pads anyway.

If it's an XL the pads will be thinner. If you went to an L or M size that would make a difference as they are thicker.

I'll have a proper look tomorrow. What I read earlier said the XL has a 20mm pad, the L and XXL only 15mm.

Cheers Thomas.

I'll see what I can find out as well. We sell Schuberth helmets and cheek pads so I'll speak to the distributor and check what's what.

We have a customer at the moment that bought an XL C3 that fits the top of his head but has actually gone 2 sizes up on the cheekpads to get the correct fit so there is quite a bit of room for adjustment either way.

Now you tell me wink

Ended up going for the S2 as I hadn't realised the SRC was such a versatile bit of kit (and only fits the C2 and S2, not the SR1).

I've often thought that it would be great to have radio or be able to hear TomTom on my mobile - the SRC allows me to do both. Having the antenna built into the S2 is a great idea.

The flip side is that the pair cost me almost £630 eek but given the use I get out of my lids it's worth it.

Remains to be seen whether the ventilation is better than the S1 was and hopefully the visors are no longer coated with anti-fog (as they have pinlock anyway) that peels off!

So I own an SR1 after much research and pondering. I really wanted an Arai RX7 GP and I have to say the Arai is tight but so comfortable around my noggin.

However having compared the two lids I went for the SR1 in the end. It’s the best lid I have ever bought and will only buying something different if they can offer the same levels of safety and comfort.

The visor is totally mist free thanks to the pinlock system. It also has a coating of some kind on it as rain seems to just get flung off. The internal comfort is awesome but I really love the ventilation. Its so adjustable and even comes with side vents which enables you to hear bikes or cars approaching, however I just keep these shut.

I also like the reflective decals on the lid and the reflective collar… not to mention the anti slip material around the base which apparently resisites the lid sliding off your tank or seat. However I always perch my lid on my wing mirror… hat stand style.

So the ultimate test for any lid is an off… and off I came at donnington where another rider collected me. I smashed my head on the ground but no noggin damage occurred. I literally smashed my head and the lid absorbed the impact, I felt the shockwave travel around the lid. Job done.

I have since bought another.

My brother has both a S2 and a SR1 and for day to day he always reaches for his S2. Its quieter and has great ventilation. Also the lid has the internal sunvisor which is exceptionally helpful. He also has been using the S2 for small tours on our sport bikes but for the track its SR1.

Thanks for this - it's what I suspected. I prefer the look of the SR1, but probably too uncompromising for daily use. As I mentioned before, hopefully the ventilation is better than the S1 thumbup

Just purchased an S2 at the weekend. Tried on an SR1 too, which was definitely a bit snugger for the same size. (XS cause I have a tiny head!)

The sun visor on the S2 is great, but I do wish it came down a spot lower. As the bottom edge does impair my viewing area somewhat. Still a damned site better than having to stop and dig out shades though. Also no issues with the sun visor hitting my glasses either.

The Pinlock is great at stopping misting up, but I did find my glasses and the sun visor can mist up ona cold morning. The front chin vent does a job of clearing this when moving, but I do have to crack open up visor when stationary.

The only other plus point the SR1 has over the S2, is it has an extra star on the SHARP rating, 4, rather than the S2's 3 stars. Small point, but worth bearing in mind. Otherwise, I'm really liking my S2, a huge step up from my previous Bell M3R and AGV K4 lids. Couldn't afford the SRC bluetooth gubbins though... frown

What style did you go for with the S2? I've got a black/white 'lines'.

Sun visor fogs up on my S1, so disappointing to hear that it's the same on the S2 - but it's more convenient than wearing shades or swapping visors. I do wish they'd make it darker though (if it's the same as the S1 that is). My commute takes me East in the morning and West in the eve, so this time of year (and spring) means lots of direct sunlight in the face, so dark visor is a must.

Re. the SRC, it's expensive, but got a combo deal from helmet city. Since realised that I couldn have sourced from fr-moto for less (about £240 shipped), but combined with the lid I wanted made the deal the same.

Gone for Flou-Yellow!

Ditto, picked it up from Helmet city for a bargain £350. Well bargain compared to normal Schuberth prices...

Wasn't a lot of choice in my XS size, and in the sale. Just the S2 in Flou-yellow, white with blue stripe/red lines or black with white line. Wanted something to stand out, drivers in East London are the pits, so didn't fancy the black, even if it does look a lot better. That said, I do quite like the FlouYellow, definitely grown on me and it certainly stands out!

The sun visor only started to fog up after I had the main visor open for a short while, so it cooled right down. If I can keep moving, and keep the main visor shut and thus glasses/sun visor warm, then they don't mist up.

Just got a new jacket and trousers (Alpinestars Andes Drystar) both with Fluo panels, so whilst like you, I wanted something more visible (drive into City every day), it was a bit too much given the gear hehe

Was torn between black/white and white/grey lines and had actually settled on white/grey lines - but procrastinated yesterday and by the time I ordered they had no stock in large. So ended up with black/white anyway.

Did you see that they've put the techno graphics on sale now too? Must mean new designs are incoming (don't like the techno graphics at all!).

Current lid is a Grey Vectum, but have gone for something simpler.

Pistonheads bikers - style matters hehe

I am thinking of getting S2... brother has got the black with white stripe.

Thinking of White with Blue/grey or red/grey stripe. Not a big fan of these colours. I would like a plain white.
