Well done!

The CBR600RR and R6 are your sensible choices? What would you consider a wild choice?

A friend of mine went and bought an R6. Now, he was never a 'great' biker but he had owned a Fireblade in the past (I tried to push start that one when the battery went flat). He bought an R6 in Yorkshire and rode it home, not going particularly quickly I gather as the weather was ste. Long story short, I suppose he scared himself on it as he barely rode it and ended up selling it with dreams of buying a Harley!

Better off with something less track-focussed and more amenable To learning a range of bike skills, in my opinion.

Trying to be sensible - Something along the lines of a CBR600RR or a R6. It's a weekend toy. Give it a season then onto something i actually want once the insurance drops.

Probably look to get onto a track day with smallboy track bikes with people from here. Ideally Oulton Park.
If you decide on a R6 pm me.

Well done. Congratulations!

The 600RR would be a better first bike than the R6 I think. Have a read and either ride both of think carefully. I was looking at the 06 CBR600RR, R6, ZX6R and Daytona 675 and many said the R6 was the least enjoyable on the road as too track focused - so maybe the others would make a better first bike if you go straight for a supersport.

Fair enough, better fit wheelie bars.

I've found my CBR600F4i (2001-2006 model) a good compromise as a new rider. Light, fast (about 108bhp) but very forgiving if you make a mistake.

The 600RR is a great little bike. Pretty friendly, docile lower down the rev range and comfortable for a sports bike. Never ridden an R6, but I have a Daytona which is much more track focussed, harder on the wrists and has more go at the bottom end.

And matching leathers.

Ride it, occasionally, to a cafe

Sv650....

A cbr is a brilliant bike, but possibly a bit hairy for a newbie.

Or you could just get the cbr and smash it up like most inexperienced people! I know, I smashed up a thundercat not long after buying it. Inexperience and lack of mechanical sympathy. What a plonker I was. Be safe!

I think the SV650S will be the one for me when I pass my test. Albeit, and early curvy model. In terms of relatively benign starter bikes that cover a lot of bases, the SV650S seems to be the ideal bike for me. Great handling, reasonable turn of pace, comfortable, hardy, and easy to use. One day I'd like to have a proper touring motorcycle and a sports bike in the garage, but until then I think the Suzuki sounds like a good shot and previous owners speak highly of them.

Learned on the new SV650 Gladius ABS. Enjoyed it.

The reason for the CBR it is more for track days than road usage - i may even consider SORN'ing it, or just buying a dedicated track bike. However, i would like the added advantage of being able to use it on the road on Sunday morning's during the summer (summer weekend warrior).

The reason for learning to ride is quite simply i do not have space for a track car anymore (townhouse/integral garage) and i want to downgrade the car to something a little more sedate and practical (estate).
