Have I been riding the ultimate bike?
Discussion
So, I got hit from behind on a roundabout on my GSXR 750 2010 on Friday. It is off to the insurance people but I think it could be borderline whether they fix or write it off. So potentially have to look for a new (to me) bike
I have had it for 3 years with no issues and looking around I cannot think of a better bike to replace it with. I use it for commuting sometimes so the only thing I would change is some ABS brakes which aren't an option on a new GSXR or maybe for novelty a quickshifter. I have been pondering a 1000cc like S1000RR , S1000R or Duke 899 but insurance is a massive step up from the GSXR 750. Even though powerwise the 899 is the same BHP as the 750.
Any one with a GSXR 750 had similar dilemma (1st world problems) when looking for a replacement or upgrade? Opinions on 899 and S1000RR reliability?

I don't know the GSXR, so can't comment on that - heard it's the thinking man's solution though. 1000RR should be reliable as you like, but see the other thread; I'd certainly echo the reviewer's sentiments, found it as dull as ditchwater, though I strongly suspect it would be epic on track. As for the 899 - well, I have an 848, and love it. Forget the 'headline' BHP, it's a twin - VERY different to the 4's. In real world riding mine's much quicker than the bhp would suggest because it's got far more low-mid range grunt. Flipside it's far less comfortable and relaxing than say an R6 (my other data point). Question is whether you like twins - or whether you want to find out. Only had mine 2 months, so not sure about the reliability, but I'd not expect it to be up with the germans of japanese. I don't consider it an everyday bike (sadly).
I've had an 899 since March, and thus far (touch wood) it's been faultless. Power delivery is a big step up from older Ducatis i have ridden, but it's still lumpy in/around town and when cold - it's particularly noticeable say for instance vs the S1000R (naked) which is incredibly linear throughout the range. Personally i find it fairly comfy, albeit as/when i do use it as a scooter and pop around in jeans, it does get bloody hot and you do tend to bake a bit - however running temps all remain within limits so that in itself isn't really an issue. They do have various power/traction modes, but mine's been in Sport since it left the dealer and has been perfect. I still haven't had it on track, but will do in the spring as i'm a big girl in the rain. It is quite loud, even with just standard exhaust.
Sorry to hear about your accident, hope you're ok.
I've not ridden a GSXR 750 but I have ridden a 600 on a track day, the 750 is the same bike essentially but with more power isn't it?, if so great bike can see why you like it.
I've owned an S1000RR and I don't see how people call it 'dull' it's anything but.
It's a bike you can get on and feel at home on straight away, yes it does have ballistic power but below 7-8k rpm it's quite docile.
I test rode the 1199 and I've ridden the 899 of a friend, they felt a bit strange to me, But I needed longer to get used to them I think, in the end I picked the RSV4 over the 1199 and I'm so glad I did, it's the most enjoyable bike to ride that I've ever owned, so much so that I'm looking to upgrade to the Factory version!!.
