fking tiny.
Aye ... But I like that as makes it effortless to throw around. This disadvantage is little room in the seat to move around ... Didn't realize how small it was till I parked the R1 next to it!

Started machine polishing the blade ready for ventureshield and GTechniq EXO ... Looking good...

How does the closed loop work via the O2 sensor?

Looks like I've a PCV and O2 eliminator on the way... biggrin

closed loop just means that a part of the map a certain throttle openings is measured against the reading from the narrow band lambda sensor and adjusted as required to achieve the target lambda.
If you remove the lambda sensor, then the ECU will basically be locked with it's settings to date, and the PCV will then make the fuelling adjustments according to the PCV map values.

Ta... apparently these bikes are only closed loop at lower rpm for emissions and fueling for good mpg?

I reckon install PCV and O2 eliminator, disconnect exhaust flap and then take it for mapping smile

Yep, usually an emissions thing.
The exhaust valve is optional but look at disconnecting the air tube flappers.
And get yer sprocket(s) changed!!

Looking good.

What product(s) do you use for finishing when you've machine polished dark colours / blacks? Do you finish by hand? (Ooh err mrs!)

Do you ever get problems with swirl marks and hologram effect?

Apparently on the 08 > Blade it's not worth the aggro disconnecting the air tube flappers as very little difference unlike older Blades... you've got to remove the springs, vac and doors too ... don't fancy that at all TBH.

Once the paintwork has been polished it gets wiped down with panel wipe and then this gets applied:

But no I always finish down by machine using correct burnishing techniques. No issues with swirl marks or holograms.

Got to admit I'm really enjoying this bike now ... I seem to have adjusted to the riding position so I'm relaxing a lot more on it. The midrange stomp is just ridiculous ... it wants to go airbourne in 3rd gear and even funnier I'm struggling to hold on as the seat is slippy and I can't grip the tank with my textile trousers. So I've had to buy tank grips to help... according to the CBR forum changing the seat for the official Honda E-comfort seat which is grippier is the best way to sort it but at £290 ... I will wait for a secondhand one but looking at it gets my OCD twitching as the material doesn't match the pillion seat which I need to keep on the bike to mount my tailpack too ... I can now do this after messing about securing the loops to the subframe!

Also installed the new R&G tail tidy which was a complete and utter bd to do... it was effectively a complete replacement tray and mount so the whole back end needed to come apart... getting the rear seat cowl off makes me REALLY nervous... as you have to bend it over the subframe to remove. Lots of people have cracked / broken them ... mine actually has a small fracture mark under the key hole from doing this but can't be seen easily when fitted so will just keep an eye on it. Brand new painted from dealer is £140 so not end of the world...

In fact the whole bike is a bit of an arse to work on... everything is so tight and compact that gaining access to anything is mental. I can see why people complain about the build quality not being as good as older Hondas... but in fact when you strip the plastics off it is all high quality ... its the thin flimsy plastics that give the impression... clearly weight saving measures gone a little too far ... I'm not actually convinced it's any lighter than my old R1 tbh... odd.

Riding it is sublime... it is effortless and turbine like in it's delivery and linear although it does seem to pull harder at around 7000rpm which I assume it where peak torque is ... I've been running it on V-Power and using the clutch more at lower rpms through traffic and it is manageable ... looking forward to seeing what the PCV and O2 eliminator do though ... not expecting to gain anymore power although previous experience tells me typically 3-5bhp is gained from a power commander alone with the correct map but I really want the bike to be utter smooth at lower rpm... that would be the icing on the cake.

It's a great looking bike for sure... as nice as the R1 ... I'm not convinced yet so I've affectionately called it 'big ears' ! biggrin

The old R1 is up on eBay at the moment smile

Why are you running it on V-power?

... because it runs better on V-Power at lower rpms... can only assume the lambda sensor is taking advantage of the higher octane fuel.

I always ran a couple of tanks through the R1 every month anyway simply for the cleaning ability so it won't hurt.

Lambda won't know - it's more that higher octane fuel burns more smoothly and slowly, especially in a marginal situation such as low throttle when the mixture is being held artificially lean for emissions rather than throttle response. Either way, you won't be doing any harm by running V-Power!

Pretty bike, by the way..

I did ... but splitting the subframe on what is essentially a brand new bike. Don't fancy that.
