As i posted i purchased the track bike quite cheap, i have a road bike that i have taken on track but just wanted a bike i know i can work on, was cheap to buy and i wont be mega upset if i trash it.

I wanted to do a few upgrades with the target of keeping the bike including purchase to less than £1800

When i started stripping and went through some old receipts i found it had been fitted with the later 650 engine and ECU (bonus), bit more torque also a receipt for some head work.

This was how i got it (RED ONE)

I have rubbed down wheels and repainted them in Satin Black got 1 litre of paint from local spray place on offer with thinners and hardner

£20

Got some old stock stomp grip off ebay, (its fine)

£9

Degreased whole engine, repainted swing arm in same Satin black, as well as exhaust hanger and heel plates

£9 for degreaser, same black paint as above

Ordered 520 DID X Ring Gold Chain, 14T front Sprocket and 47T Rear Renthal

£110 (Not fitted yet)

Stripped down front and rear calipers, cleaned and fitted red race front lines by wexmoto and red rear line
£70

I wanted a shift light and gear indicator also not a major issue but a speedo/lap timer would have been nice

I cant go to the budget of an aim dash but did get this 2nd hand Translogic Dash 3 with Gear Indicator/Speedo/Manual lap time/Shift Lights

£300

Just ordered BEC2211 Triumph Paint in Tornado Red to repaint all the fairings, 1 litre with Hardner, thinners, scotch brites, wet and dry

£100

Dumped the coolant, cleaned and refreshed
£5

Ordered a 650 gear selector and heal guard and peg/ better than the TT600 set up, also means a quickshifter is easier to fit if i go down that route

£40

Once all the bits are fitted above the bike owes me £1400 including bike, parts, paddocks stands, spare wheels and wets.

Left to do

Oil Change £40
Dyno (£££)

I also want to change the from Master Cylinder, it has a 3/4 from a GSXR K7 which is a radial 19mm unit, however i know these were recalled so may look for a Brembo unit

So it looks like i will be under my original max spend of £1800.

I have just started stripping and building parts of the loom, and getting it ready for the dash as well as tidying up the mess what was there.

So hopefully before March i can possibly fit quickshifter and a decent master cylinder and I am done

Your first error was buying the same bike that you use on the road.

The first off will see you tearing into your road bike for spares. biggrin

Good thread though, I like a bargain track bike.

'Ive been on and off looking a TT600s.

As Daytonas are coming down in price is it worth looking at these instead, how do they compare?

I could do the ~£4.5k that I see 09/10 Daytona 675s going for if it's worthwhile.

Track or Road?

They are a bit night and day to be honest.

The 675 will be a future classic without a doubt.

TT600 arnt that bad, I have a map on mine that sorts out majority of fueling
The 650 engine and ecu is an improvement to be honest.

Daytona 675 would be my track bike of choice but hold money really well

As MtB said, future classic I think

I bought an 09 675 in April, and kept it for a few months and Although it was a fun bike, I wasn't blown away.

I think the 2010 ZX6R. I owned was a far better bike in almost every way, except sound, the 675's do sound great.

the new ninja is meant to be as close as you can get to the 675, I really fancied one being a Kawasaki fan, but I couldn't justify a new 636 for almost the same thrills, I didn't like the integrated indicators and the exhaust.

I was in the Kawasaki dealer and when I said I had a ninja g1 he said "you have to have a shot of this it will blow you away you will never want to ride yours again". Yeah but I also have a 675 Daytona I replied, "Oh right, don't bother then its not worth it".

A surprisingly fresh no nonsense sales approach I thought.

Bit of an update

Degreased the engine

Panels off repair the damage, nose cone and both fairings

Change the fluid in master cylinders and fitted a new wexmoto rear brake hose

Renthal grips on and deleted the buttons on left side just leaving a horn (daytime MOT)

Fitted the D650 gear linkage and pedal

Panels rubbed back, primed and painted

Gave the frame and swing arm a quick flash of satin black and painted the battered wheels

Stomp grip fitted to tank
