Fast pull away, no wheelie
Discussion
OP - why do you not want to wheelie?
If it's not to draw attention then surely pulling away at the rate where the bike is picking up the front wheel despite trying to keep it down, then you will be attracting attention anyway?
If it's for drag racing then it's technique, the front will hover in the first couple of gears if you get the launch right, as your rate of acceleration will still be high & it shouldn't wheelie in 3rd.
I've had no troubling lauching various bikes like this, including drag racing my 990 Super Duke to a 10.8 run to launching my CR500 at sprints & hillclimbs - admittedly something like a Hayabusa is a bit more idiot proof to launch but that will spin if grip isn't too good.

Also consider the chain tension. if it's a bit tight it will bind the rear suspension at the end of its travel and make the rear effectively solid so the bike will wheelie like a champ.
+1Google "squat" and "anti squat" the angle the rear swingarm makes with the run of the chain on the big with massively affect the wheelie ability.
You also need to slip the clutch quite a bit to get a really good start (for a few seconds at least). Check out Simon Crafars MotoVudu series for more info.
Don't do what someone next to me on the grid in Cartagena back in May did and just drop the clutch and hang on. He slewed sideways straight into the pit wall and took 3 other bikes out. Complete tw@t.

I currently find this, even in the dry. I usually put most of my weight forwards to stop it lifting if I'm showing off, pulling away fast or whatever..I guess on your commute you've discovered how slippery (fun) the slip road onto the A30 at Indian Queens is?
