I travelled from NW Kent to Derby to the bike I really wanted a few months back. Sometimes you've got to bite the bullet and travel! biggrin

It's all very modern these days. We have gas lamps and long distance communications using beacon fires.

Trains and electric invented by the English. Do you want me to name all the English inventions?

No, I thought not, you can keep your Glens valleys and locks, oh and you can shove your shortbread and whiskey up your arse.

Most of the 750s up North will have some kind of Whippet damage anyway.

I think you'll find that the first steam locomotive was built by a Scotsman, William Murdoch.
Murdoch demonstrated it to Richard Trevithick (who identified as Cornish, not english) and he had the idea of using it to replace horses for hauling loads on rails since the roads of the day couldn't take the weight.
Of course, that was before John McAdam (a Scotsman) devised the modern method of road construction.

Electric trains?
First built in 1837 by Robert Davidson, a Scotsman.

And I'll quite happily keep our Glens, valleys and lochs over your urban sprawl, inner-city decay and "Lahndahn Tahn."

As for whisky and shortbread, I suppose you would prefer a pint of flat warm bitter and some jellied eels...?

Christ, they're only around the corner from each other!
I sometimes do Teesside to Halstead in Kent AND BACK in a day - and that includes 3 or 4 hours at the client's. 270 miles each way... and the further 'up north' you get from London, the lighter is the traffic whistle

P i s s taking aside, van hire is £60 for a SWB transit, start early finish late, go see a couple and buy the one you like in a day; easy

Scotland also invented chest-thumping nationalism. Never achieves anything of course.

I suppose. I listened to Salmond and Sturgeon but got a bit confused. When I talk to a Scotsperson now am I supposed to be arrogant or simply bully them? There doesn't seem to be an alternative.
