you say don't do PCP, may mate has just bought a Panni 899 and he got a great deal so I'm sure they would do the same on the monster.

I seem to recall 3k down, £127 a month for 3 years and 4.5K to buy at the end or renew, he also got free termi's thrown in. As he put it, that's about the same money a month as SKY tv and gym membership!
What gym does he go to?!!

He doesn't as he has a brand new Panni in the shed!

The autotrader add for the Monster at Riders, if that is the Bristol branch Jerry the sales guy is very helpful and they will let you test ride as soon as you have passed your test and get your licence back. Mrs P test rode most of the bikes I listed on my earlier post through them having just passed.

Yep, looks like that Monster is based at their Bristol showroom.

Good to know, I'm very taken with that particular Monster.

Thanks mate thumbup

Having just changed from a Ducati Streetfighter 848 to a 1078RR Brutale I guess I should comment.

Loved the Ducati but the MV is so much more bike.

It's beautiful to look at and rides like you'd expect. I certainly don't regret changing.

I tried the 800's but found them a little too accomplished for me. I wanted a challenging bike that needed riding as opposed to some of the Japanese stuff that's almost too easy if that makes sense. Credit to MV for refining there products over the last few years, but the SF needed to be respected and the 1078 blew me away.

Go for the MV!

Just to update:

Pass my theory last Monday, booked my DAS for the first two weeks of Feb. Excited is an understatement, only 4 weeks to go! bounce

Regarding bikes; I popped into a Yamaha dealer last week to look at a 796 they had in. Obviously couldn't take it out, but I did perch myself on it to check for size. By Christ, it's heavy. Felt comfortable though, so at least I know I fit.

The dealer did spend 30 minutes trying to convince me to buy a MT-07; a nice bike but not for me.

Next job, find a Brutale in the flesh!

This can only end one way... hehe

Love the look of the MT-07 as well, but in terms of looks it doesn't stand a chance against the MV.

I know laugh

I keep reading reviews on the Brutale and the general consensus seems to be that it will be an awesome bike, as long as MV sort out the software mapping that makes the throttle response 'twitchy'.

I'm now trying to be sensible and decide how much the Brutale will depreciate over 2/3 years. The Monster seems to hold its value pretty well.

Quick question for knowledgeable bike people; am I right in assuming bike values don't drop circa 25% when bought from new. I'm talking in relation to cars, that tend to lose value as soon as they've had 'one' owner. From what I can see, bikes don't seem to suffer with the same stigma...?

Its the older models that had the twitch mapping, apparently the later/latest models are well sorted in that respect

Regarding residuals, it varies by bike/manufacturer/deals on offer. you can pay £12k for a new bike and 6 months later that model is not selling so well so they start giving them away for £10K, 0% finance with £1K of accessories ...that does not help your residuals at all.

Id generally bank on losing 30% in the first 3 years then its down to market demand and supply for that model...

Been looking at the same bikes really didn't want to spend a fortune but wanted something different. I've owned a Street Triple 675 it was the one with the underseat exhausts and I had the Arrow cans on sounded great.

I've bought the MV Brutale 675 on a PCP nothing down one twenty something a month over 36 month seems cheap enough to me. Bought the MV because I'd always wanted one but they were too expensive really now with the £1500 quid off its Street Triple money for something that bit different.

I'd say get the MV 👍

So, four months later and here we are.

In that time I've managed to get my full bike licence, change job and move house! Still no bike though frown

The good new is that part of the agreement with my other half was that I could buy a bike once we had moved; well we've moved (even though stuff is still in boxes).

As predicted I've changed my thought process on bikes about 40 times. I am now torn between three:

Yamaha MT-09 - I keep going back to these; the style would probably suit the type of riding I am expecting to do better. Must have the optional Akrapovic exhaust. Not keen on the Tracer or other spin offs, just the plain Jane.

Triumph Daytona 675 - Not the street bike I was originally set on, but I love the looks, it's a triple and it really gets my stomach fluttering. Would be looking at something 2008 to 2012 (I much prefer the under seat exhaust). I just don't know if I'm capable enough for a sports bike.

Ducati 848/749 - Absolute wildcard. Personally I think it might be a bit too much for me, but the desire is strong.

So yeah; a complete contrast to where I was 4-6 months ago. Decided against a Monster, I'm just not feeling it anymore. I haven't looked a the Brutale for a while, but my head is saying that it'll be akin to a high maintenance girlfriend.

In approximately 4 weeks time, I will be putting my money where my mouth is but I'm still not sure where to put it.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Bear in mind, I'm a newbie, so test rides are pretty much a no-no. This will be a decision based on visuals, noise and people's opinions....

Don't bother with the 848/749 - it will break
MT09 or 675 is a good shout.
My mate has the street triple R and he loves it, and being an ex bike racer he says it quick and great fun, he has also done a track day on it.

No reason why this should be the case, yes some places will need a years experienence before they'll let you out on a demo bike, but a lot will be fine.

I test rode a Monster 821 a month after passing my test and rode an MT-09 and Tracer at the weekend, won't have had my licence a year until October.

Plenty of dealers will have demo bikes with it being the height of the biking season, you might not be able to take out a 160bhp S1000R most bikes you'll be fine. Get test riding lots of bikes. I hadn't really looked at the upright 'adventure' style bikes but after riding the Tracer I have a hankering for a Multistrada...

The Daytona does take a bit of getting used to, the riding position is quite extreme, I'm fortunate in that I have a Street Triple and a Daytona, in the past 12 months I did about 750miles on the Street and about 2500miles on the Daytona which tells me the Daytona is a much better bike.
Probably.

I don't think you should worry about having a 675 or other 600 as a first bike. I went straight from the test to a ZX6R and don't think I had more problems than I would have had if I had chosen something less sporty (I think you have to expect the odd "moment" when you first start riding as getting the licence is very much the beginning and nothing beats lots of hours in the saddle to really learn how to ride - I think I still need a few thousand more hours to reach a reasonable level.

I owned a 848 for 4.5 years and never had one problem. How many problems did you have with yours?
