One of the things I love about my Aprilia is that the fairings are held on with proper screws and quarter turn fasteners, none of this plastic rivet rubbish.

I sympathise with the Benelli owner, my mate has one and the steering lock is pure comedy but after curing all the factory fitted defects this is a minor detail, he loves the Tornado and prefers it to his MV Agusta.

My 'Blade had some that held in the fairing infil panels panels in place, what a complete ballache, it reminded me why I like naked bikes.

I think they are great. The trick is to use a watchmakers screw driver.

+5, on the GSX-R they have actually have all worn down as such, lost plastic so they are no longer a tight fit in the holes due to vibration, so the panels around the nose cowl all move around.

True but if you manage to invoke the speed wobble it'll shake the cocktails for you all on its own.... biggrin

Does the 1300 have a high speed wobble? I thought that was an 1100 thing.

I can't imagine an ST1100 shaking its head, never mind getting into a speed wobble. It's a long, low, slow steering old barge. When the ST1300 was introduced there were reports of a high speed wobble. ISTR Honda re-torqued the engine mount bolts in an attempt to cure it. To be fair, the biggest issue was with police bikes which were heavily laden with kit. So much so that at least two forces removed them from service and had the frames cut in half so that they couldn't be put back on the road.

I had to replace some on my Honda and couldn't find generics. £6.00 for two. Arses.

1300 is much worse in my experience.

+7 My wifes bike has them all over. Pain to get off, pain to get back on, and brake all the sodding time. I wouldn't mind if they were easy and cheap to get hold of. Same with my car's wheel arch lining, which has to come off to replace headlight bulbs, and you can only get the correct size from the manufacturer. Every bike or car that uses them should at least come with a bag of spares.

I thought it was only a 1300 thing. I understand that most Police forces were very happy with their 1100 Pans but were seriously disappointed with the 1300 replacements, hence very few (if any?) still using Pans.

My limited testing suggests 1300s wobble from about 95 & 1100s from about 135. Unless you remove the topbox which stops the 1100 wobbling at all.
