Does anyone have any experience with this bike school? Particularly the one in Bedford.

Looking to do my DAS in February/March. Would prefer to use the same company that I did my CBT with but these lot seem to have a decent offer on at the mo.

Incidentally all of the course options include the CBT, even the 4 day "experienced" option. I already have this but would still prefer a 5 day course for the extra training/experience. Would I just have an extra day straight on the big bike you think?

Cheers.

I did my Direct Access with cam rider in Bury St Edmunds in 2012. All the equipment was good and training was spot on. As with any franchise though, every branch is different.

I did a 3 day DAS with the Cambridge team, was straight on to a big bike. Had about 10 minutes in their yard before going out on the road. I did have 2 years experience on my 125 before then so not quite so gungho as that sounds wink Nice guys, no complaints about them and the bikes were in good condition too.

Cheers,
Rob

Did all my direct access training with the Bedford Camrider guys this summer and was really impressed.

I set myself a pretty lofty target of getting the whole lot (CBT, Mod 1 & 2) with the minimum of training on the 'experienced' course, as my theory was on the verge of running out, and the guys did a sterling job of helping me pass everything first time. I can't remember the individual names of the guys I worked with but had no complaints about any of them.

Worth me saying that when I first discussed the setup for the course I was told that if I already had a CBT then that session could just be switched to more training. They were good on the phone so give them a call and have a chat about your options.

Good luck!

Thanks people.

Spoken to a school in Brackley today (who I did my CBT with) and they can do a decent enough deal too.

Finally thinking it's more a case now of deciding who to do my DAS with rather than whether/when to do it!

Mod 1 passed smile. Minor for 48kph on swerve test, think I closed the throttle too early. Or maybe it was the wind! It blew the timing bar away on the emergency stop so I had to do it twice.

Mod 2 to be arranged as soon as work will allow.

Well done. Minors on the swerve and e stop are what you should aim for as it makes the majors less likely. Well, that's my story anyway.

Get in there! Mod2 passed with one minor.

Quick question: having now got a full category A licence am I mad to be considering a CBR400rr? I really do like them and feel it could be a great bike to learn my craft on. I know the more obvious choice is a CBR600f but I am drawn to the 400...

One other thing: I'm thinking of doing the advanced rider scheme (or something?) - any thoughts/experience of this?

Cheers.f

ETA enhanced rider scheme maybe...

Nothing wrong with a 400 Honda, that's what I have (CB400 VTEC)as my first bike after passing my test back in October. Cheap to insure (£90 a year TPFT), enough power to have fun (0-60 in 5 seconds ain't that slow) and mine handles awesomely as they're very light and chuckable. 55 MPG too, just beware that parts are harder to find being imports, however quite a few parts are shared with other UK Honda models of the same era.

Cheers Paul - who do you do your insurance through?

Mine is through Bennetfs: TPFT, not garaged, doing 10k miles a year inc. commuting, no security declared, 0 NCD, no points/accidents, licence held under a year.

Just done a quote based on licence held for a year, 1 years NCD and garaged (which it will be come winter), TFPT is £77, fully comp £126 biggrin

I was paying £180 TPFT a year on my 125 doing the same miles.
