Ouch!
The only thing Matt salvaged was the engine and that needed cracking to check for gravel first, they found some in there! Everything else was destroyed.
methinks Matt was having a slight over exaggeration moment when he said that

What was the outcome for the rider in terms of cost?
I imagine it'd be the £500 maximum liability. I think they might of put the price up to 750 because of this incident though.
Unfortunately it's part and parcel of renting bikes out. The easy thing is to say for every bit of extra profit when an accident doesn't happen put it aside un till it's the amount of a full bike for when something like this happens. But life doesn't always work like that I guess and if someone's being wreckless it's not going to go down well.

Would a bike rental co have some sort of insurance?

I suppose they would have to to some extent. The £500-750 is probably their excess maybe?

They probably run on a hire as you go insurance policy. I am sure there are better informed people that would be able to comment.

Any updates on bike progress OP?

£500.

Crash costs were whatever it cost to repair it up to a maximum of £500. He's had to change the rules for this year, as there were several other big crashes and the cost isn't just the repair / replacement it's the lost hire time too.

It's ok cheers. I've got access to a van but I'm not in any rush at the moment anyway, I'm trying to cleanse the garage so I can paint it all before I bring anything else in. It's actually in droylsdon which I think is over your way ish. As long as I get it for March so I can prep it for croft I'm be happy.

Cheers for the offer tho.
