Well that's it bike packed and off late morning tomorrow or as soon as the rain stops. 320 miles to the ferry in the rain sounds like no fun . And this year it is on the big cruiser as a recent arm operation means no pressure on the wrist .. Should be a different line on the mountain then. Oh and a slow one ...
Ive got a aircooled monster and a 1199 and im going on my monster for the third time. I treat it more as a sightseeing holiday than a "going as fast i can over the mountain" holiday and enjoy being able to just potter about in comfort. Ill still have a few rides over the mountian but its always full of idiots who end up crashing and closing the road. A 100hp monster can have its knackers thrashed out of it and stil have a load of fun

How do you guys go about booking these trips, it seems impossible. Me and the family were planning next year to hire a campervan this side and take it over for race week. I thought id book it before this years even over to give me plenty of time... I cant even find a crossing on the steam website everythings already sold out!

I've Stayed in a few places over the years, always wished I was in Douglas on the times I wasn't.

Personally I Wouldn't want to stay in Ramsey or Peel again, too far from the evening action for me.

Yeah different strokes for different folks
It's all good.
I would not want to stay in ramsey either but plenty of action in peel in the right places

I'm probably squinting thru rose tinted glasses re Douglas when in the late 80's early 90's it was pretty wild.Started to clamp down on stuff after the lad fell from the clock tower and died

Anyway have a great time, sure you willbeer

You only pay a deposit for tickets booked at this point, since the ticket prices aren't released until ~January I think. At that point, there are inevitably a lot of people who will fail to pay for their tickets and these get released a bit later (around March I think). I've bought released tickets a couple of times for our trips, though dates and times are obviously more limited.

I'm not taking a bike across this year, not taking one across next year either.

i went in 2013 without a bike and enjoyed it just as much. The only bit i missed was being able to move around the island as freely as you do with a bike.

Next year if i go i plan to take a pushbike and cycle around. Cant justofy the expense every year.

Give me a wave if you see a pearl white / red framed monster 1100s with my username on the plate. 4 more sleeps ....

I'll be taking the bike (next year) and do a couple of laps of the course, but only to get a first hand perspective of the roads, and to say "i've been there". I will certainly not be trying to crack 130mph! It will also be handy to visit the rest of the island.

Will it be worth decking myself out in hi-viz, to make sure other riders notice I'm going slowly, or would that not make a difference?

I've been a few times without a bike, no problem getting about on foot or public transport (btw the old Electric railway from Douglas to Laxey to Ramsey is well worth a experiencing).

Push Bike is a good shout tbh, might take the treader across next year now you mention it.

Will do.
stay safe

from my observations yesterday it would appear that some people are going for six months not just over a week, the amount of stuff some people are carrying i am amazed they can lift the thing off the stand

I have been twice for race week with the bike and once as a foot passenger for the day. Went in 2010 on bike with a group of mates and we had a blast, plenty of laps, good weather etc, great time had by all.
Went again in 2012 on bike with one mate, weather was crap most the week, camping in rain with a small tent, even the senior got cancelled, and the mate I went with was pretty skint so limited what we did. Wished I had a car there that year!
Last year was booked for the week but I smashed my kneecap to bits few months beforehand so had to cancel that but pursuaded my other half to drive us up to liverpool and go over for the day for the first days racing. Was in agony all day hobbling around as leg was still in a brace but loved it none the less!
Have booked for next year to take car for whole of race week, I know once im over there I will miss having the bike there but am looking forward to taking full advantage of having an estate so will be taking a massive tent , bbq, cooker, fridge, the works! Rather than sharing a little tent and cramming stuff into bike luggage!
Cant bloody wait!

I could not go to the IOM TT without a bike. A friend is flying in this week and has asked me to join him but I have zero interest, unless I can get a late cheap ferry ticket this week.

Being on the Island without a bike is like having sex without a cock !

Ferry crossing booked for next year biggrin
Itl be the first time at the tt after years of telling my mate who races sidecars there that I'll join him. He's always told me to come across with a one man tent and they'd make a place in the paddock but having a 18month old I can't really just scoot off for a week or two. So decided we'd do it in comfort despite the cost. I'm taking over a big campervan taking the wife and kid with me.
I didn't realise all the crossings would be sold out this soon so we can only manage to get across Tuesday of race week till the following tuesday but I'll try in February to ring and ring and extend the crossing so we can hopefully get there mid practice week. If not its not the end of the world and I'll still get two good days of racing hopefully.

Can't wait...only a year and this meeting to wait through...
