Speaking to a random biker I met at the services this weekend while out for a ride, turns out he's been to about 18 TT's so we ended up chatting for ages over coffee and cigs.

He mentioned a few guys he knows have posted 'luggage' over to their hotel prior to the week..

Anyone done anything similar? I've no luggage capacity whatsoever except what I can fit on my back, s was thinking this could be an idea rather than either buying something to fit my bike, or simply bodging and strapping stuff to it..

Would a weeks worth of stuff fit in a 30L backpack?

Several of the TT campsites will store packages until you arrive, best ring up and ask them.

You should be able to survive for a minimalist week with 30L. Buy all your toiletries on the island etc. and take T-shirts and shorts etc. that can be rolled up and packed tight. I always find shoes are the biggest space wasters (though I do take size 11's), but you can pack your mobile charger and underwear etc, into them. I took a pack-a-mac last year and was glad I did.

That said I find a backpack very uncomfortable for lengthy journeys. A set of s/h throw over panniers don't cost much (I got a set of pristine Oxford 'Lifetime' panniers and tank/tail bag for under £30).

Cheers dude. I honestly don't know if I can get any panniers to fit my Daytona. Maybe some soft universal ones would, need to look into it..

I say the same every year, there is no issue getting tickets if you want them.

Well done guys, well done.

Just a word of warning, carriers charge ridiculous rates to send parcels over here. Royal mail are the same costs as uk but I am not sure what parcel force charge for larger parcels. The local haulage companies charge around £100 for a pallet from their depots in the uk.

Have a look at this:

Might be of some use, not used it myself so can't comment on costs and value for money.

That's really good, thanks!

£34 return for up to 20kg suitcase! That might actually be worth it looking at the costs and other hassle of luggaging up the bike..

Knowing what local carriers charge, that is a bargain and saves all the hassles of putting luggage on the bike.

I'm doing the classic this year. It'll be my first time on the Island, really looking forward to it as it's a proper road trip from Mallorca smile
I managed a house B&B through a friend of a friend who knew someone. The ferry I had no problem with, I booked it online at the beginning of February, but of course there are more people going over for the main TT, but I'm told the Classic/Manx is getting more popular every year.

Yes since they changed it to include the Classic TT we have seen the number of visitors increase over the last couple of years, which is great as the MGP was dwindling away. It is still easy enough to get sailings and accommodation and it is a great festival you will enjoy it I am sure.

Watched the (main) launch, and it was pretty good, although some of it is starting to sound like the same old routine: Dunlop and McGuiness trying to out do each other with the lewd comments; the usual micky-taking of Rutter; some cryptic digs/comments (at Martin?)

I wonder if Yamaha will be getting behind the R1 in the same way BMW did last year. If so, I expect Dunlop to clear off. McGuiness could still trim down a bit... smile
You do realise they'd have probably all been on the beer before hand don't you?

I'm glad these guys aren't like the soulless twunts that fill the F1 paddock

Bit of a thread hijack if I can. I have a bit of leave to take up at work, and I really fancy going to the TT this year. I have spoken to TTbreaks who can get me a last minute pre-made tent and transport. So I would be going on foot, with a backpack, for a few days over race week. I would also be going alone as none of my friends can make it, and my other half says she couldn’t think of anything worse(!) And I have never been before.

Grateful for any advice from anyone who has been – I am happy to go alone but am I right in assuming there would be plenty of people to meet and have a beer with? And is a huge amount of insider knowledge required (which I don’t have) to navigate the event to make the most of it?

Still undecided whether to pull the trigger.
