None other than cat from red dwarfs bike.

The big bang r1 in my short experience is harder to ride quickly but a better road bike than the s1000rr. Never ridden either on track but I'd pick the bmw every time. It is noticeably quicker but not really at road usable power. The place it really felt faster was like above 9k rpm like you'll be used to where as below the r1 feels quite a bit more responsive but doesn't carry the bmws crazy urgency right up to the redline

Possibly a bit too Barbie for me...wouldn't match my leathers...I've gone more power ranger! The R1 isn't on the list...I think I would be sitting in the kitty litter blubbing if I had one of those!

Looks familiar, a bit like an old slow racer I once met.

Yes, it's me on the right

I organised a charity event at our final race of the season in order to raise funds for the Air Ambulance. I had met Danny about 6 months earlier where he had told me of plans that he and a friend had made to mix his enjoyment of riding with TV. Roll forward a few months and a fellow racer/friend had a life changing accident at Paddock Hill. The time saved by the air ambulance over the road was the deciding factor in whether this guy lived or died. I wanted to do something and while pissed one night decided to contact DJJ......no cheek no chance

With the help of some others, T-shirts were printed, the press and interviews organised and good to his word DJJ spent a whole day at Brands in the pouring ran with the only fee discussed as a bacon sandwich and endless cups of tea. He didn't stop all day. Not one photo request or autograph was declined

We had 100 shirts printed, but could have sold at least 3 times that amount, took donations from race sponsors and had charity buckets being put under peoples faces.

We collected £3000

The chap involved hadn't been married a year when that happened. Some 4.5 years later and he can walk again albeit a few metres, and he is slowly finding his speech

While racing is great fun, it can also be very cruel

(Genuinely) cool story bro

Sad about the injured chap. Glad he's on the mend, albeit slowly

Based on what? Have you owned or ridden any Italian bikes? I have had problems with BMW's, Honda's, Triumphs and Suzuki's, probably more than with my Italian bikes. Still buy ANY of them with perhaps the exception of any Triumph.

Overpriced - You mean you can't afford one? No shame in that.

Overweight - Incorrect

Unreliable - Again, incorrect.

Underpowered.- Oh dear you've really let yourself down here...

The italians are lagging - Where as you are at the top of your game.

I'm 5'9" seems the Aprilla is worth a try...my BMW was 2013. I did LOVE it but with her being nicked I'm thinking a new bike...but I wont use the full capability of any bike...only mine! I did 6 track days last year... as long as it's fun...I'm not out to prove anything...I ride better than some boys and girls, worse than others...don't we all!
Good post.

If you run on track, and are relatively lighter weight (most ladies are compared to us fat blokes), instead of a 1000cc, I'd be tempted to go for a Pani 899. The 73ftlbs torque of the 899 is plenty for the lighter rider, and it's handling and all round package is supposedly better than the 1199. In white! thumbup

Agreed. I've only ridden an 899 once (on the road), but really did gel with it (and I'm an emaciated worm according to some mates, weighing in at about 75kgs) and it really did go, stop, and corner as i'd expected it too. I did find myself head butting the limiter more than i'd expected on a test ride though! Peaky engine maybe...

If you do, get it in red though please....! I like the white, but the red wheels just look a bit...

I expect I will be shot down in flames for saying this but...

...comparing power outputs on litre bikes is like trying to compare a sledge hammer and a cricket bat as nutcrackers. All litre bikes are insanely powerful for road use with the ability to break speed limits (or reach speeds that are not advisable on the road) with a quick twist of the wrist.

On track for the vast majority of riders, laptimes are limited by skill and training much more than power. Sometime back I read a magazine article comparing 600s and 1000s on track. They had a wide range of testers from enthusiasts through normal bike journalists to racers. Only the racers were quicker on the 1000s (this was a few years back and perhaps technology on bikes today would change that).

So....I would suggest (like others on here) to buy what takes your fancy after some test rides (you seem to use your bike a lot and in many different ways so usability, comfort and reliability might be useful ways of splitting the bikes).
