Duc 1198 -vs- 1199.

Third gear, 3000rpm, twist the throttle - all thousands are the same?

Err, no.

And that's comparing two V-twins from the same factory.

Up it to 5000rpm and change the bikes to 09 R1 -vs- 2013 ZX10 - both Jap, both four cylinder, both completely different feelings, thrust and torque.

I agree - try the main contenders and choose what you like best but don't go in blinkered thinking that because they all bust the limit in first they must all be the same.

I really want to see the new R1 reviewed, I've got a feeling its going to be the bike to beat this Year.
Out of the 1299 and BMW though I'd pick the BMW every time.

I read most of that and enjoyed it. Just hope Ducati can make the riding experience enjoyable and the performance accessible for the majority of riders like BMW manage with the S1000rr.

Italian bikes.

Overpriced

Overweight

Unreliable

Underpowered.

Had to laugh when Ducati were banding about the 205 bhp claim again for the 1299. Another extra 100cc's and it still cant make the power a 1000cc 4 does. infact it doesnt make anywhere near it, and has lost the old style ducati grunt in the midrange.

The RSV4 is the same, hideously unreliable (still) parts are a nightmare (still) and the base bike is still underpowered and isnt as light as people think.

Some say the gap is narrowing between jap & european.

Only the germans can take it to the japs in the big boys category, & Triumph currently have the best middleweight bike.

The italians are lagging
I covered 20k on my 1098 & I was shocked that it didn't throw a fit at anytime unlike my old 998 that used to just about make it down the driveway.

i have a few mates with newer Italian stuff & it seems to be better, so I'm now thinking about chopping the S1000 in & letting my heart rule my head & get an MV F4 I rode my mates one today & just loved it.

I'm still trying to come to terms with it. I haven't been in the garage since I put it there at the weekend

No matter how old it is.
Even though you still admit to lusting after the Aprilia? tongue out, saying that I might be jumping ship soon.....good those R1s.
