Oh dear. Only owned my bike a week (and only back on bikes after 15 year break) and I'm dreaming of an upgrade!

As I was parking the KTM a Speed Triple rode past. Mmmm.

Maybe next year if I can stay upright I can talk my wife into it....

Triumphs really are the MX-5s of bikes aren't they. People seem to post about them all day long, as if it's a badge of honour. If you want one buy one, they don't cost much.

I'm the same always looking for a new bike or a second then realise, I can't afford one just yet and there are greater priorities, doesn't help I live close to 3 bike dealers and then a 15 min ride there's another 4.

Depending on your budget I wouldn't bother with a Speed Triple at the moment - it's quite an old bike now and there's a new one due to come out at the end of this year.

pardon for asking but is your wife going to buy it for you? or ride if you got a Speed triple?

Unsure why you are talking the wife into it?

My wife does not ride and I never talked her into my next bike. But took them for a test ride and seen which one I want. saved and got it

The above could be complete bks if it's your and your wifes bike to ride

I get this. More with types of bikes though rather than specific bikes. I talk to lads that do motocross a lot and I get it in my head that I need an eduro or mx bike then I do a track day and see the array of awesome track bikes and instantly justify in my mind going out and getting a new r1 to just use as a track bike. Then I read about the newest naked street bike a d obviously I need one of those as well. It never ends.

Women must get this same urge with clothes. I have maybe three pair of jeans and I change them when the wife shouts at me for being a scruff yet her wardrobe won't even close with stupid clothes yet she still desires more.

Sometimes you have to sit back and remember you probably own a pair of jeans that a lot of people dream about owning. Erm I mean a bike that people want...I've forgotten what my point was.

I had a big accident 16 years ago and promised the wife I wouldn't ride on the road again. Recently I managed to persuade her that getting a scooter would be a good idea (as an alternative to a push bike - as not really that much more dangerous). Somehow it went from a Duke 125 to a Duke 390...as pretty much the same bike and why pay the same for 12 hp when you can get 44 hp...

Using "man logic" then going from 44 hp to 105 hp wouldn't make much difference as they will both get to the speed limit easily..

...but not sure she would fall for that!

Get an rc8 and hope she doesn't twig that it's different.

Well I can understand if you had a big off years ago.

but if you promised then you sort of dug yourself out of that hole well even if it took a while

I had 2 minor accidents within 6 months of getting my licence the second was a few broken ribs. but I never said I would stop riding and she got used to how much it means to me

But enjoy and take it safe

To be fair to my wife she likes to remind me that when I spent 7 hours in surgery I was unconscious and she was the one pacing the corridor not knowing what was going to happen. To add to that.
the year before my accident I was riding with someone that was killed. So she doesn't have a very positive view on biking.

From my side I am just trying to keep it slow and safe. Better to have a bike than no bike (even if I would love another Ducati sports bike)

Silly idea.

Get a Superduke, she won't spot the difference.

yes

And to complete the deception/confuse her in case she notices such things, retain the old registration number.

Nice idea but I'm not convinced she knows the registration of her own car off by heart, so might be overkill

I'm not keen on triumphs

I will always want a yamaha R1 though, 2007 model year up to the last of the current wobbly-cranks ones. I want a wobbly crank one in black with gold wheels and akrapooviks

Many years of avoiding looking at bikes has taken its toll and I obviously don't know
my arse from my elbow, as the "Speed Triple" I liked the look of I now realise was actually a Street Triple. At least I was correct it was a Triumph....(although as that was written on the tank I don't think that counts for much).

Hate to be controversial, but if you agreed to keep the bike capacity small when your wife agreed to let you get back on two wheels shouldn't you do the right thing and stand by your word?

Oh, and avoid Performance Bikes magazine this month as they have a big Street Triple buying guide wink

I always like to ride all the latest bikes, yet ultimately im only comfy these days on cruisers or upright naked kind of bikes.

to cure the new bike syndrome I joined Spyderclub and for £100 a month have access to a fleet of all the new bikes that changes each year. Just book online and its delivered on a Friday, do a few hundred miles on it, and picked up Sunday/Monday morning ...no hassle

Anyway, the missus is happy because so far its working, and I still enjoy cruising about on my comfy V-rod whilst looking forward to a few extra special weekends per year on something different
