Hi folks,

Some of you may recall the Tall Ships Sunday Service I put on with PH in August 2011 in Southampton, well I’ve now had a dafter idea with a tall ship that may appeal to some on the BB forum.

As a ‘broken biker’ myself (Bike + Low Loader Truck = 1 leg!) and wanting to send one of my ships to the IOM TT for quite a while, I’ve now managed to schedule one of my tall ships to do a 10 day sailing voyage, from Cardiff to Liverpool to berth in Douglas over the last couple of race days. We’ll Arrive 9th June, depart 13th June (10th & 12th being race days), then we’ll sail off (with thumping hangovers I guess).

That's an each way (very slow, but fun) ferry to and from the IOM, your digs, all your grub, in the centre of Douglas, with a bar onboard the ship too.

The ship is operated by the Jubilee Sailing Trust, a registered UK charity whose aims are the integration of able-bodied & physically disabled people. That’s where the charity bit ends as whilst I've approval from PH Towers to post this (Cheers Nathan), I said I'd not make it a begging charity type post.

If anyone is interested, have a peek at www.jst.org.uk or ask me here/pm me. Our charitable aims mean we can accept all disabilities onboard (even gingers!) so any fellow broken bikers will have no trouble coming along they wish (irrespective of how broken you are).”

Cheers
Andy

PS - Guy Martin - if you're reading this, I cant get past your marketing type bods, so please get in touch as you'd "reet enjoy" a brew up the mast on my ship when we're there hehe

Sounds excellent and a great charity too. I'm presuming its foot passengers only, (assuming one has feetbiggrin), ie no bikes loaded aboard?

I do have space for a bike or two as deck cargo, but can't guarantee it won't get wet on the way. So you may bring a bike wrapped in cling film on your own head...

If I stab myself somewhere (not there you filthbags!) will I qualify as a broken biker and can I come along? biggrin

In seriousness it sounds ace! Be sure to update the thread with pics/story of the trip!

I remember the Sunday Service in 2011 very well my friend! It was a flipping great day, one of the best in fact. For two reasons: One I finally got to meet the legendary Garlick (who recognised my PH username immediately, so I sort of felt famous for five minutes biggrin ) and two: I loved having a tour of the fabulous ship.

It's amazing what you guys do, and long may it continue. I am currently back at Uni studying for a degree, and hence skint, so have no chance of coming along on this adventure...however I wish you and all the guys and girls well, and might see you again at some point in the future.

Keep the faith! biggrin

I have very little interest in the TT, but if I was going to do it, this would be the one for me. Sounds like great fun, a worthwhile project and actually really good value when you compare it to the robbing bar stewards that are Steam Packet

Sorry if I led to confusion. You don't have to be broken/disabled to sail on this trip.

Hi all,

Just thought I'd update this thread with only a month to go.

We've been working with Kawasaki and should be getting a visit of some race bikes and hopefully a visit between races by James Hillier for an Q&A session (Good luck in the NW200 if you're reading this James).

There's still a couple of spaces onboard if anyone wishes, we have recently been given some pots of bursary funding for folk that have not sailed with us before making the trip a bit cheaper. As I mention above the ship can accept 'broken' and 'non-broken' folk onboard, so just get in touch if interested.

As I've managed to get out of the office for this trip, happy to put on a IOM TT PH'ers pint and tour of the ship on the 13th June if anyone fancies it? Ship will be easy to spot, in the heart of the port of Douglas, looks like this:

Cheers all
Andy

Wow, wow, wow. I have always wanted to sail/crew on a tall ship and one that's headed to the IOM does not get any better than that! I will be in the US on those dates otherwise I would have gladly cut off a pinky (or ideally not) to join. I am a huge Patrick Obrian (Master and Commander series) fan and I have wide range of 18th century pudding recipes committed to memory. I bookmarked your site and will look to join up on a future sailing, just need to find a suitable fundraise or just save my pennies.

Best of luck (weather-wise) for the voyage. I am going to bookmark the thread in the hope you post some piccies of the adventure!
