Here is my late Croft Trackday report....

I again slept in the pits. The no limits lads were fantastic. A lot of them drinking in my B&B before they retired for the night. Really pleasant guys to chat to and after doing a few trackdays from other organisers recently, its night and day in comparison. The whole experience with No limits is just slick, friendly and hassle free. Faultless.

I agree about the NL boys, they're a good bunch and always up for a laugh. The same can't be said for the guys from one of the other UK organisers, but the days run similarly

The NL are a laugh....I was at a briefing the other day and 'stalker' was doing the briefing....he constantly kept taking the piss out of Suzuki's.....'when you break down on your Suzuki pull to the right side of the track, away from racing line' 'if you see an oil flag, look out for the broken down Suzuki' etc etc.

IMO Suzuki's never break down!

I was away on holiday so here is my late knockhill trackday report.

I got a call last again Tuesday, a few spaces had came up for knockhill so I thought fk it. I'm in, ordered some wets and was off.
Got there at 8 to be greeted by motorhomes and a packed car pack. Normally open days are 50 riders max and easy to get a space, a lot ride up and its quite a span of skill levels up there.

Not today, a garage packed full of bsb boys out for testing this weekend. fk, I forgot there was a race next week. I got a small space as the bsb boys had tables, chairs, laptops, full kits out. bds. I felt like a tink showing up on my trailer and quickly wheeled my shed inside, it was like showing up with a fat bird.

I missed the briefing but I heard someone was turned away due to their experience level. As they recognised me they just gave me a sticker, "you've heard it all before" and told me the racers have been told, just come to us if it gets messy out there.

It started to rain, but not enough for wets. 3 weeks of no rain and suddenly a greasy as fk track. I hate that... but it turns out the bsb lads don't like it as well. We all went out and took it easy before thinking, we'll give that an hour.

It started to dry so we all started going out. fk me, your out with the mackenzies, james east, smrz, rispoli, chrissy rouse......It was fking mental. I lined up an overtake on a chap, I backed off thinking no I'll sit him up I'll get him on the brakes into the hairpin, Smrz comes at a 45 degree line across my nose, grabbing my attention and standing the bloke up.

It started to spit again so I had an early lunch. It was a cracking pie, beans and chips, I was stuffed. I soon regretted this though, it had dried and we were all back out. I was going into duffus as mackezie came up my inside sitting me up a wee bit, it was enough of a fright to make me burp my lunch up inside my lid.

It just got mental, lots of track down time then everyone wanting out, I was at best into the 56's and on average a 58, thats not a bad time round there but they would just pass you like you were on a DAS lesson. The difference is unreal. Traffic became an issue, ME.... I couldn't get a decent lap in for the fact I was now a mobile chicane, if I was passing id be thinking, some s going to do me as well.

One move I remember. I caught a lad on the brakes on the inside to duffus, all I hear is this angry as fk bike and I'm sat up by rouse probably thinking, well if your not using this apex I am, who is then sat up by mackenzie, "bring a bottle why dont you and your mate the more the merrier". fk me, 4 a breast going into duffus and frequently the hairpin was something different.

These s leaving black lines everywhere, back wheels bouncing in the air, wheeling past, rubbing each other and you just know they are laughing in their helmet, while i'm going fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck. I caught one giving the fingers to a guys camera as he overtook on one wheel.

You'd talk to the other track day riders in the pits, "ah they are quick but I thought they would be faster, ah its fine I like a challenge". What a load of pish I'm sat there thinking, I overtook your fireblade on my 675. I feel like i'm st out there all i'm missing is my DAS bib.

My only gripe is there was 2 hours dead track time again at knockhill because of accidents that required the one ambulance to take them to hospital. For £170 this is poor. I want to make this clear, I don't mind people crashing, no way, I think the guys at the circuit do a great job picking you up. But to have to wait for an ambulance to come back because they don't have back up is poor in my eyes.

No ambulance back up seems piss poor!

Even at Pembrey they had 3 of the feckers. Seems like a massive PITA to be sat waiting just because they didn't plan well enough.

Anyway I will be at Anglesey July 29th, anybody else heading up?

Last month at Donnington, two guys crashed (one was an instructor from what I remember) on the first session after lunch and the lack of an on site ambulance afterwards meant the day was then cancelled and we all got sent home without any refund. It was a nice hot day and the track was closed down until around 15:00 when they finally made the announcement the day was cancelled.
I guess there's not much the organiser could do in those circumstances
Having an ambulance on site is expensive though, so i guess they don't want to throw money at it by having more than they normally need

well i had an interesting 2 days.
it was my first time properly at oulton park and first time in the uk in fast group. The two days was a huge confident boost and really enjoyable until this happened...

i had 2/3 people come to the garage cursing me about making them feel silly on their 2/3 year old zx10 on my 15 year old 600 which was flattering but The funny thing was i was the slowest in our garage but i guess an old bike stands out more.i Fitted nicely into the middle of fast group and definitely the group for me to be in, being able to follow faster guys really is useful. I got a bit of instruction as usual then the next session out everything was fine until i caught up to a guy on an all carbon s1000rr (not that i want to wipe anyone out but this is especially not something i want to hit) i was caught out by the closing speed into druids and tried to go underneath him but was way to fast on the tighter line. Decided to sit it up and use the run off. I narrowly avoided the guy broke until the grass then let the brakes off, skipped over the grass but as soon as my front wheel touched the gravel trap it dug straight in and over the bars i went. Did a few cartwheels using my head as a brake for the crowd then jumped up completely disorientated. Im pretty sure i ran in circles before figuring out which way the barrier was.

I apologize to the bmw guy if your on here ( i did in person aswell) it was a stupid honest mistake but other than a little scare i didnt actually touch him but could see how he'd be annoyed at some nob shooting up the inside.
A few lessons learnt. Small mistakes at the pace of mid fast group can have much bigger consequences than at inters speed.
Im not a moto gp god and cant just skip over the gravel track at 60 odd mph and wheelie out the other side
Falling off didnt hurt as much as i thought at first but once the adrenaline wears off it can be a right pain, literally.
The difference between the 600s and 1000s makes much more of a difference in fast group. I found myself passing all sorts on the straights in inters where as everyone in fast knows how to wind it to the stops so it was tough to pass people even if i was a quicker through the corners.

Ive been riding 5 years with 2 years on track and ive never even ran off the track let alone fell off, ive never bumped a car or any accident so it was a bit of an eye opener and i feel stupid for nearly involving someone else but luckily it was only my own bike that copt for it. The good thing is it was just a silly mistake where i should of stayed back until the next braking point so knowing that, it hasnt effected my confidence at all and ill be back on as soon as i get some new fairings. Im not a dangerous rider and id say im usually more cautious than 90% of people before overtaking someone but i just got caught out. Luckily it was a dirt cheap bike that owes me nothing and only needs a few cosmetic things.

I'm glad you're alright Tim. You're still doing better than me mate.

Also, that man behind you is wearing his cap back to front. If you meet him again would you mind hitting slapping him across the back of the head for me?

not much. The tyre wall seemed to get close very fast! luckily my bike dug in and came to a deep stop pretty quick it was just me that bounced relatively un hurt. I remember thinking to myself everyone says go loose but for some reason i just curled up into the fetal position tensed up with my eyes closed and just felt my head hit the gravel over and over. Then jumped straight up and although i was looking straight it was if i was cross eyed ha. I must of looked a right picture

there's not much run off at Druids, things happen really fast when they go wrong at speed so don't beat yourself up.

When I run off track I scrub as much speed off as possible before I go into the gravel or grass, if its gravel I try to push myself backwards and get back on the power, if its grass I just make it up as I go along and hope fore the best.

I ran off the track twice in 2 sessions at Almeria a couple of years back and was lucky to stay on.
