It's not his rubber - it's other people's ...the stuff on the edges of the track.....which is cold and hard when you roll over it coming off line or off the track with a red hot sticky tyre ....
I honestly thought this was Alex having a joke trying to reel people in ....

I wasn't actually. I just couldn't explain why it was on one side. But I suppose when you come off your on the left side of tyre. I've seen it on the front with blobs and such. Just never like that.

No way is that not leaning enough, I'd say thats alot of force being put on the front with bad rebound and or pressures

Im still learning this myself as my background is mx but that wouldnt just be tyre snot where its not being cleaned off
OK, ignore me, its only my local track. plus its a rear tyre not a front. Have you been to knockhill?

Graham, most probably in this case, at Knockhill, that is his own rubber, not anyone elses. There is only 1 proper left hander on the whole track, at the bottom of Duffus dip, which isnt a big acceleration zone, its more of a deceleration zone, so the tyre doesnt get any load into it. The only other time the left hand of the tyre sees the racetrack, is the left hander after Clarks, which is basically a straight with a kink in it. So the bike is on full gas, but not on full lean, and the rubber starts to build up there, whereas normally it would be cleared off the edge of the tyre.

Alex, this happens to me everytime at Knockhill, but goes away if you use that tyre somewhere else. Its definitely not tearing, its just rubber build up. there is nothing you can do to stop it except lean over more.

I'm number 89 on a Blue GSX-R 750 SRAD with K1 fairings. I've sold my K1200R and bought this. It's a bit tatty and I've done all the race prep myself. In fact, I've only ridden the thing twice on the road and never on track, so there's no telling what could happen.

I've had my forms come through and it looks like all mine are on the Saturday, but it does also run on the Sunday too. What's your mates number? I'll keep an eye out. Pass on my best wishes of luck to him smile
Hi Christopher, sorry but this the only photo I have of you.
I had a disastrous day photographically; when I wasn’t being buffeted by the wind I couldn’t stop coughing. Over two thirds of shots had to be deleted so happy to still have a few mediocre shots.

Re. Neil , McK, I know some of his rubber , inevitably, but there's going to be a load of other people's stuff in there too, I couldn't be arsed going in to lengthy diatribes of explanation . You, understandably will get it less than most for obvious reasons , pace and consistent line , and only having done three days at Knockers remember getting a fair bit of it , but I was inevitably riding offline and cruising a lot whilst instructing ( back in the day ) and trying to stay out of the way in novice and inters groups whilst following somebody and thus on many varied lines gathering tons of "pick-up" along the way .
I find I really struggle to be bothered to post on many matters nowadays as it always ends up becoming ingrained in detritus , a bit like that tyre ....

I've done tons of laps round there and never had it like this. Now i think though I was out with bsb boys. I was sat up a lot and offline a bit for over takes.

I guess these lads just fling more off and leave it on the track compared to a track rider.

Can't explain why others next to me never got this. Possibly because the tyre had turned into a 50p profile on the right from over use?? Who knows but thanks for replying everyone

I spotted your bike whilst wandering round the paddock and wondered if it was you! Didn't see anyone about to have a chat with mind.

Anglesey at the end of the month (29th) is now booked!

Just need to get some bloody time on the bike, it's been off the road for 3 weeks... AGAIN!

I saw this in the paddock yesterday too. Easy to id a big Pistonheads sticker smile
The weather gods were kind yesterday, and I ended up with a bright red forehead.
We left not long after the crash in the classic race when the Air ambulance arrived. Did it get started up again after that or did they call it a day ?

That's a great picture mate smile it's actually my novice friend having a go, I let him use the bike for a few sessions as he wants to get into track days, he'll be well chuffed you managed to capture him. Yeah the wind was pretty terrible on Friday. Ruined my gazebo! frown

Yeah it was definitely me smile sorry it was so desolate in my area, if no one was there we were probably under the shelter tucked behind the van to act as a wind break.

Racing did start again eventually, and I was able to get my final race in, albeit with reduced laps.

Still unsure on the guy in the classic race, I keep checking the NGRRC Facebook page but nothing has been announced yet. Hopefully he pulls through.

Thought I'd give a quick report on my first race at Castle Combe with North Gloucester Road Racing smile

So a year ago on friday i did my first trackday on a bike, and was instantly hooked. This led to another 6 trackdays, and naturally led to me doing my ACU licence in March of this year. I knew the time had come to part with my BMW. Sad, but I needed something sportier and lighter that wouldn't cost too much to repair. I joined North Gloucester as its the only club to race at my home circuit of Castle Combe. I recently found a GSXR 750 SRAD with lots of trick parts, and so snapped it up and began to get it ready for racing. Which leads me to the weekend just gone.

All in all it was a good few days. The Friday track day served well to get me somewhat used to my new bike, and so was able to go into Saturday practice with a bit more confidence. The bike felt strange at first (coming from a BMW K1200R) and that strangeness soon turned to alarm as I struggled to keep up with the instructor setting the pace lap! Soon however I began to gel with the bike and had my knee scraping.

A big concern for me was not knowing the layout of a race meeting. Considering it was my first race meeting on a bike I didn't know and had race prepped quickly, I was very pleased I managed to get myself in the right places at the right times, and that Friday evening scrutineering went fine, despite initially failing noise check by blowing 110dB (stock exhaust to the rescue!) smile. This was in no small part to the helpfulness of the staff and other racers within NG.

After a decent and relaxed few pints, and a surprisingly good night's sleep in the van, myself and my mechanic got up early saturday and got the bike ready for first practice. The weather was dry and the bike felt better than ever, again I was dropping lap times. I began to realise from chats with other racers that my choice of class had been unwise. I actually booked my races before i bought a track bike. I had no clue what I'd end up with and so I had joined what I thought was the open 'riff raff' class, full of people like me, inexperienced and on mixed machines... not so! The Phoenix open is the premier class in NG Road racing, and was full of nutters on litre bikes with insane speed. That being said, I managed to qualify 34th out for 39 in the wet, setting a personal best lap (wet or dry) in the meantime. Not too shabby I guess, especially since I'd never ridden in the wet.

After watching the other races the time had come to finally race. I got my gear on, hopped on the bike and made my way onto the grid. A first for me, but something I'd wanted to do since my old man took me to combe as a kid. Off we went on the form up lap and then it was for real. Lights on, and then off. I managed to get a fair start and flew up the middle up to about 120mph and managed not to get in any tangles. Tipped into the first corner and made it through OK, after which the pack began to space out. As I approached the first of combes chicanes I noticed the yellow flag was out, looking up I saw a bike lying on the ground the other side of the chicane (the rider of which was thrown into the infield with only minor injuries) just as another bike ploughed into the side of it, followed immediately by another. The bike that was lying on the ground erupted in a ball of flame and both riders were catapulted over their handle bars at high speed. The red flag was now out and I passed slowly, noticing that one of the riders was lying in the middle of the track with a damaged helmet. The race was subsequently cancelled after half a lap, and I returned to my van, as I did the air ambulance arrived at the circuit to transport one of the riders to hospital. We spoke to the family of one of the injured racers, who required pins in his hip but was otherwise ok No more racing took place that day, and so we headed to the track restraunt before walking the track and heading to bed.

I got up early Sunday as I had a morning race in the newcomer class. The bike went well and I managed to finish in 12th out of 19 scoring 4 championship points, yay! It was quickly time to get ready for the second Phoenix open race and so kit on, and back on the grid. The race was scary but the bike was faultless. I was obviously at the back and competed against another new rider on an R6, who became my main competition and who I eventually managed to beat. Second from last, but faster than ever.

When I returned to the van, my mechanic informed me that sadly, the other injured rider from Saturday had died from his injuries frown very sad for his family and friends.

My final race approached, a long 12 lapper, and the main race of the day for the club. Shortly before however a collision occurred in the classic race and another rider was airlifted to hospital. Now pushed for time the club cut a few of the laps and got us out a few hours late. I finished dead last as the R6 rider was a DNF, and the two people i overtook rehained their positions after i had a little tankslapper and an excursion onto the grass, but I set my personal fastest lap round the track, so I was happy. We took a slow walk round the track before heading back to the van, packing up and heading home.

As I said before, this was a brilliant weekend. Arguably one of the best I've ever had, as racing has been a life long dream that until now I never had the means to realistically achieve. My plan now is to get out on track days at as many circuits as possible and learn them, so that I can do a full season next year smile

I'm planning on having a go at racing next year, but I'll probably start off being part of one of the enduro teams in those events (Such as the Nolimits ones), as I've always got someone else to blame then smile

Saturday was a fatality as you say.

Friend of a friend was involved in the 4 bike first turn incident in the Lansdowne series on Sunday afternoon. One of the four wasn't hurt. Andy ran over a bike and has a broken collarbone, wrist and some ribs - leathers cut off him etc. He was the least hurt and left the circuit by road ambulance. I believe the other two guys involved were more critical and left by helicopter after being stabilsed at the circuit - fingers crossed for them.

I spotted you Pebbles just as you were preparing to go out for the 10 lapper after the stoppage. Red & black leathers as opposed to the all black ones shown in the earlier pic. It wasn't an ideal time to say hello.

Cheers for reading smile I'd suggest definitely having a go at some point if you can, it's great fun. That team enduro racing looks great though, if any of my friends were bike riders I'd consider it!

Glad that there not all were seriously injured, and really hope the others make a recovery. It's not what you want to hear, people getting airlifted frown

Yeah the picture earlier in the thread was my mate having a crack on the Friday track day. Sorry I wasn't able to say hi, everything was pushed back and they were running things at turbo time. When the unexpectedc call to line up came through I barely had time to get my kit on!
