What's the cumulative cost of a euro trackday?

Aside from the flights and cost of the trip from the TD company
My costs for going to Almeria next month are:

Trackday - £479
Flights - £80
Tyres - £680
Insurance - £15
Fuel when I'm there - ~£150
Transport (Manchester pick up / collection - £114

Total: £1518

Obviously can be done for less as the majority of the money is on tyres. Also there's general spending money when I'm there.
Plus food & beer whilst there (£150), airport parking (£?), car hire & fuel (£100 / no. of mates), brake pads (£50), presents & ciggies for the other half.

Spending actual money on tyres? scratchchin

George, you have lit the blue touch paper for all the hardened experienced " I run on threadbare cracked sidewall 1952 ex-race remoulds" to come out of the woodwork, who have "never bought a new tyre in their lives" but have repaired plenty of crashed bikes along the way and spent the time hobbling about on pieced together frames...(theirs, not the bike's).......

-horses for courses, but false economies are .....well....just that I guess.

Pace regardless, I don't think anybody should try to dissuade or mock anybody for putting the best rubber under themselves that they feel appropriate , piece of mind and confidence are a huge part of the riding experience and in pushing one's self and bike , tyres aren't the area to have in doubt.

Not a direct dig at you Jonny H.(mototraxport), nor anybody else, but an observation that the badge of honour hinted towards "look at me go on the ste tyres I ride on " wears a bit thin ( geddit) over time...

I too will always go with the best i can afford/ available to me at the time and always will, not necessarily KRs but decent fresh tyres. Enjoy .

You cannot beat new tyres - absolutely lovely things and 2 seconds a lap faster than later in the day. When racing I did 10 new sets in a year because it was 10 meetings - practice day on the last weekend's set then new a set in for Sat morning and occasionally another new back in for Sun morning. That was on a flipping SV650.

The skip diving has been a bit more of financial reality in recent years (but also sorta fun at the same time). It works on the lower powered stuff (<140hp) but my recent acquisition of a 175hp thing with full on stiff race suspension, on a a low grip bumpy circuit indicates you can take it too far - my first off in 10 years last month and (more seriously) no fun having to wait so, so long before gently easing the power on.

I do fancy a set of KR106/108's brand spanky new for the next one just for the utter comedy grip / lean / steering etc.

Well, maybe not the very next one as I've got some old rubbish to use up but when they're gone I'll be buying new (maybe)

P.S. £340 a set!! yikes

Yep, I've got 4 rears and 2 fronts in the loft.

I've also got a hole in my shoe.

Agree with you exactly - I don't "need" the Dunlop slicks, but they will give me confidence whilst I'm still trying to get to grips with the Blade. Plus buying scrubs is a false economy as you say - 1 crash as a result of using worn tyres costs a hell of a lot more than a new set. Not to mention the extortionate prices for changing tyres they charge on Euro days too!

I don't. Even in full wet my rear is usually pretty knackered after 1 day. On a drying line I've killed them in 10 laps

Fair enough.

Lots of different factors when comparing tyre wear on Internet. Make, compound, bike, setup, rider ability, rider style, track surface, conditions, track surface temp and when the user feels a change is needed.

All I can say is I've never came close to fking a rear In a day. On a drying line a use a wet front and a super corsa at the rear mostly. Or come in.

I always use Dunlop wets as I prefer them to the Pirelli ones I tried. The downside being they are a lot softer and do chew up miles quicker. Only time I used them on a drying line was during a race at Cadwell when I didn't expect it to dry as quickly as it did - hence how it killed them in no time

Aside from the flights and cost of the trip from the TD company
Last weekend in Portimao would have looked a bit like this:

£699 - Trackdays, hotel, bike transport
£320 - Wet Tyres (though you could argue that this can't be 100% attributed to this weekend, as they still have loads of tread left and had I have already had some wets, I wouldn't have needed to buy some
£130 - 1 Rear Tyre (though again, I tend to use rears over between 3 and 5 days and the one I had on over the weekend did 1 day at Brands, 2 days at Snett and 2 days at Portimao as the wets did a day / half a day)
£30 - Share of the hire car
£38 - Fuel for the hire car
£25 - Repatriation medical insurance
£80 - Hire of Jerry can and purchase of fuel for bike
£300 - Day tuition with Peter Hickman (Obv no one "needs" to do this but it was a one off treat)
£80 - Van hire to drop bikes off
£129 - Van hire to collect bikes
£70 - Diesel for vans
£80 - Evening Meals out
£100 - Beer
£30 - Lunches
£150 - Flights
£20 - Gatwick express

Am sure there are other things I am missing but you get the idea (the Van hire / fuel for bike and van is a big cost that doesn't generally get considered)

Arrived in Cartagena and rode a few sessions so far today
Lost my binning it cherry with my first ever crash today. Silly accident, just hit a false neutral going third down to second into the first right hander after the start finish straight, and locked the rear sending me into the gravel and dropping it about 10-15mph
Spent 20mins getting all the Spanish gravel out my bike and back out next session
This is a cracking track, and I'll get some pics up when I get wifi later at the hotel

Weather looks good out there - sounds like you're having fun. I've crashed at the first tight left (in the wet) two turns after that so also on first name terms with the gravel but I can imagine a false neutral being most helpful going into that first right.

Don't bother posting pictures til you get back - get out on the flippin' beer & steaks!

Cracking little track - Carta, easy enough ( like anywhere) to have a little spill but straight back out is good news always ... any opinions thus far from Mr McKean ?
Ps Jon (H) where are you confirmed going later in year as yet mate ?
Cheers.

Booked up for ParcMotor Castolloli with NL end of April and that's it so far. Estoril also took my fancy but I'm off to the TT for the first time since 91 and that sort of clashes. Looking at Spa dates just starring to be realeased with BikersDays (Aug 11/12th maybe?).

Hungaroring is scheduled to be Sep 22-24th and me and the chaps are up for it, spoke to Mark (No Limits owner) out in Catalunya and they've booked the track so I'm waiting for them to release it officially. Might also try something randomn like a Dijon, Magny Cours, Nogaro etc. Might try to rationalise the bikes - three R1's is definitely one too many. Also trying to buy a house at the moment so everything a bit fluid - it might be three R1's too many!

Had a few beers at the circuit after the session finished. Guy that runs the bar/cafe there is Scottish and a decent guy, so nice to stick around
Nothing serious on the bike and more damage to my pride as it was my first ever bike crash, so looking forward to the next three days

Gear selectors are known to go on ZX10's causing false neutrals, if it happens again I'd be looking at down that route.
