Snetterton Open Pit lane 27/03/2017
It's fair to say the tone for the day was set early on when 2 bikes were dropped between the garages and noise testing. The theme continued with a red flag on the sighting laps (apparently a snapped chain) and was repeated for the remainder of the day.
I was told the tally was up to 14 red flags by the end of the day but I wasn't counting.
The morning started misty and cold but things improved by about 11:30. Glorious sunshine and a slight breeze.
I met Birky from here (we actually met on track whilst we were both going for the same patch of tarmac to avoid a moving roadblock but couldn't be helped either way)
The time on track was good whilst it lasted and being my first OPL, I think I'd do one again (assuming red flags are not a side effect).
Think I'm a bit Snett'ed out now. I need to find some double days on tracks I've not visited yet like Mallory, Cadwell or Oulton and make the trip up and try something a bit different.

I think you'd get bored doing a double header at Mallory. The other 2 are good shouts for double headers but I would go for Oulton as the facilities are much betterThink I'm a bit Snett'ed out now. Yep was good to meet you and of all the people I slightly blocked out...it had to be someone on pistonheads haha! It was my only one too as that other rider clearly took the widest line everIt's fair to say the tone for the day was set early on when 2 bikes were dropped between the garages and noise testing. It was a mixed bag for me too. One of those guys that spun out in the pits was a mate of mine and he was being very sensible. Reckons as he turned it just spun up
I spent the morning setting the new bike up. Lots of good things but some real issues too. The engine and bazzaz is a peach...I mean wow! However the suspension is seriously under damped. Right springs going by Ktech but Im taking to MCT wednesday in the hope they can squeeze in before cadwell on the 14th April if not I may use FTR but I hear MCT know their stuff
Heres the rear (now wrecked) tyre after just 4 sessions. Times going by gopro were 2.07's but she was bucking bronco and I had to ride around the issues as I couldnt dial it out from the primitive standard rear shock
Also have the wrong right clip on when I built the bike up. The right is a K7 1000 and I didnt know it sits higher so I had odd bars. I tried to drop the right bar in the yoke only for it to come loose braking down the finish straight...and that wasn't funny - I shat myself squeezing a lever thats half way down the yoke and pointing inwards
I checked and double checked everything, loctited every bolt, every pipe, everything! Only thing I didnt due to needing to adjust were the rearsets and funny enough the right one vibrated loose
Anyways need to find positive things from it all so onwards and upwards for the next track day

What group were you guys in? Not sure if it's the same in UK but in Spain people seem to book into whatever group they fancy. Groups get booked up really fast and people just book anything. Back in September in Jerez there was two guys in Novice doing sub 2 min laps. They shuffle people about a bit after the first session but I've never seen anyone get 'told off' or anything. It was Open Pit Lane so no groups as such, just an expectation that riders are not novices. I had expected it to be full of race teams testing but wasn't the caseIm no longer on fb but it seems from a few mates chatting on our whatsapp group that quite a few had the hump from yesterday open pit lane which was posted on fb
The guy that bought my bike last year was rammed into the back and the other guy was knocked clean out. I have the picture from the gopro

First trackday of the year for me tomorrow.
It's Castle Combe, so I can guarantee strict noise limits, grumpy marshals and awesome lunch. Double track time tomorrow though! 20 minute sessions, which is what no limits have been doing for years, but shhh
It's been organised by a friend of mine for the trackday addicts Facebook group. Anyone on here going?

First trackday next Friday, Mallory park so by no means the best track ever but it'll do. I was intending to take my commuter hack Thundercat but I took it out for a bit of a proper blast the other day and realised how crap the tyres are when pushing on, if they're bad on the road I'm sure they will be no better on the track.
May have to take the Aprilia in which I love the tyres but don't fancy binning it.
Then got my second 'trackday' on the 30th at RAF Odiham. Obviously not a proper track but looks like a decent enough set up and only an hour from home.

Took a trip to Castle Combe today for a privately run day. My ZX10R has no hope of passing noise testing there, so I thought it'd be a good idea to take my africa twin to see what it's like.
As expected, the brakes are pants and it's so vague in the corners that you have no idea how much grip is left until it throws the back end out.
I'd like to say it was fun, but actually, it was a bit too sketchy for me with the wet conditions, so I knocked it on the head before I highsided myself into the wall.
Chris (pebbles74 on here) took a pretty nasty smash into the wall after a big old tank slapper in the wet, and ended up with a trip to hospital in the back of an ambulance. I think he's largely going to be ok, but get well soon wishes to him
The new track surface is a bit sketchy in the wet, and I saw 3 day ending high sides today

Oooof! Get well soon to Chris. Watched him hooning round there on his old Beemer road bike on a trackday and then on his foray into racing with the GSXR - never managed to catch up with him in the paddock due to mate's crashing / air ambulances etc providing a distraction.
