Holy crap yes
If you wanted to know why you were sliding and squirming... There's your answer right there
Rear on track needs to start with a 2 when hot. Front at 31-34 depending on tyre is normally pretty good
You wouldn't believe how much hotter a rear gets on track hot, especially when checking cold in the morning
Ah, to be fair I dropped them a little for the last session and it did feel a bit better. Tyre guy said my pressures were fine, then again he really didn't seem interested when he realised I wasn't buying anything. If you wanted to know why you were sliding and squirming... A lot to learn about bike setup for track, one things for sure I'm going to be doing more trackdays so I'll have the chance.

Yep, last year was my first year doing track days and I found the same. Some are helpful...but not many. I remember doing Snett in October in 14-15 degrees with slicks and he laughed saying 'I was a brave man'. Bike gripped amazing all dayA lot to learn about bike setup for track, one things for sure I'm going to be doing more trackdays so I'll have the chance.
Anyways...setup is definitely key. Graeme on here started same as me and we both talked about similar things (tyres mainly) through the year. Get yourself doing as many as you can and you soon get the hang of it

All the manufacturers have recommended pressures, and these are normally a good starting point
http://trackday-addicts.co.uk/tyre-pressures/
Try and set them initially hot from the warmers if you're using warmers, and then reset again when you're straight in from the track as that pressure can grow or shrink a lot depending on how much heat you're either generating or losing during the session. Buying a decent tyre gauge was a good investment for me too, as I had what I thought was a reasonable digital one, and then when I borrowed a decent one from someone in my garage, I realised mine was 3-4psi out, which is a mile in pressures.
I use a Longacre analog gauge, which was recommended to me by a friend, who's runs the Macam Yamaha BSB team bikes.
It wasn't cheap at around £70, but I can at least be confident it's reasonably accurate

its not willy waving, I've tried and tried to get both wheels off the ground and can't do it, you fancy sharing how you do it do ya?Biker's Nemesis said:
Birky, don't leave me hanging, it was an honest question.
Ah sorry Nemesis I didn't even see that. I'm always on here at work when it's quiet but must've missed that I cut tight on the left and then make the line as long and straight as I can apexing the right before the mountain. When I hit the mountain I'm slightly to the right if that makes sense as it lands in the middle
I'm absolutely full throttle, flat out I think in 2nd gear on my old k1 750 and just before I get to the very top I shut off (and I mean at the very top) then lift my butter off the seat a bit and let the speed and momentum do it's thing
I pre loaded it once and that was bloody stupid as I took off much quicker than I expected and it spooked me a bit. Made a great picture but I kept the bike flat as many brown marks appeared in my pants
Hope that kinda makes sense

It does make sense, I roll off on the first bump just before the top. I don't think I have the balls to keep mine flat out in 2nd up there but I suppose if I want to get both wheels off the ground I'll have to try it.I cut tight on the left and then make the line as long and straight as I can apexing the right before the mountain. Thanks for the explanation, I will take your advice and give it a go, its one of my biking things I want to do before I stop riding on the track.

New track bike time. I've been on the look out for a 2007-2008 R1 for some time and this one came up just before Xmas. Lots of spares and 2 sets of spare rims with tyres too.
Looking forward to my first ride at Brands in May. I would have preferred to do a few evenings on her before the GP but it's not worked out.
