I currently have a large single and a 250cc inline 4.

Neither are exactly what you would call versatile, but both are fun in different ways.

If you could only have one type, what would it be? smile

I'm guessing most people would say large 4-cylinder.

V12, though I do like the sound of a V8

250 four? Interesting...
I'd go for twin. If I have to choose configuration I'll take V twin.

I would go for a v twin. Inline 4's are generally quite dull.

Wow, so impressive, my old VFR400 did 68mph in first, wasn't impressive and IL4's delive power in a screaming way and I find that dull as ditchwater.

Give me a V or L Twin any day ........

Never ridden a V-4, how does the power curve differ from an inline engine?

Thing is, I genuinely WOULD find that pretty dull. Good fun once or twice but I like to wring the neck of a bike and make it work. I don't want to use less than 50% of the capability of a bike that is so far above what's advisable on the road and/or my capabilities.
Interestingly, 106 MPH is exactly the top speed of my bike smile

Each to their own though!

Only ridden a VFR750 but it has power pretty much anywhere. It'll pull from 3000rpm and just pulls harder after 7000 till the redline.

V4 would probably be my choice although only because I haven't ridden many engine types.

It wouldn't do that with you on it.

1000cc IL4 in a superbike.

Why?

My opinion:

V-twin... feel and sound like tractors

Triple... all the disadvantages of a v-twin and all the disadvantages of an IL4. i.e. Not as torquey as a v-twin, yet doesn't rev like an IL4!

That's just what I've ridden and my own opinion... not tried a V4 yet. smile

I'd probably go with a an inline 4, I don't have a huge depth of experience with different engines but I love revs. The cross plane R1 engine would be the one for me I think.

Some form of twin, V or parallel not a BMW flat twin.

More interesting noise & character than an IL4 like I ride every day.

Either a square 4 or V4 2 Stroke..nothing is more exciting to use than a stroker.
