NW KREW '15 ride outs, banter and man love from Loon
Discussion
Perhaps my last tumbleweed trip this year into Wales this Saturday, if anyone would like to join in.
You should be warned that I'm really slow, have poor obs, and can't read a map so prefer just to ride up and down the A55 in a straight line because bends are too difficult. I'll discover I left my wallet at home after ordering a lot of expensive cake and coffee at the tea stop, and will run out of fuel in the middle of nowhere but will manage to produce a handy tube to siphon off yours. I'll use my phone as a satnav without having memorised the route, then lose reception somewhere very remote, and very gravelly with what looks like an oncoming rainstorm advancing. I'll be in vented racing leathers because they look awesome, and a tinted visor because it also looks good, but will complain about being cold and how the weather's st. And if there is any other traffic on the roads, at all, I'll moan like mad about how my riding prowess is being constantly thwarted by idiots in cages, before adjusting my speed hump, whispering to my bike, a brief prayer then carrying on. Oh, and I'm so grotesque that the lid stays on at all times (coffee and cake through a straw - easier too when you've got no teeth).
Tempted?

Tempted, but I'll be watching the Vulcan somewhere if I can escape from building the damn cottage.

Annoyingly I won't be able to do it myself as we have family coming over.
Very nice ride out today, cold to begin with though. I did a route through Denbigh moors then twisty road back to Ruthin. Then did it again, a bit quicker
The tumbleweed and I were joined by a very nice R1 (rider not as small and rodent-like as I expected, but then I probably wasn't as green and bald as he expected either), but rarely got a glimpse of it as it charged off into the distance . I like to make people feel good about themselves by riding a little slower than them; mission accomplished

May be out that way tomorrow, not on the A525 to Ruthin, but Denbigh moor from Denbigh to the Llyn Brenig road that goes thrugh the forest to Cerigydrudion, and Ruthin, most likely Ruthin first, but don't know yet, usually end up in Llanrwst before Ffestinog moor and into Bala etc. Total waste of fuel, and a day haha

North Wales is a little like something out of Star Was so rather fittingly I met up with you. Nice run out around Dagobah moors The tumbleweed and I were joined by a very nice R1 (rider not as small and rodent-like as I expected, but then I probably wasn't as green and bald as he expected either), but rarely got a glimpse of it as it charged off into the distance . Even got shown a nice road I've never been on before, and I didn't get stung for any cake
Please use your powers to turn the Sun on again

I can't visualise where the turn off is for Llyn Brenig, which is bad seeing as I must have gone past it twice yesterday and think I went there years ago Is it a decent road? Any good routes you can suggest?

Where did you go yesterday when you lleft me ? I turned around and went back as you weren't behind. I presumed you would be going the same way as me. I turned around just in case you had been knocked off or something. When I didn't see a 400 on the floor I thought you must know a quick way to the a55 ( the way I planned on coming to meet you ) Any good routes you can suggest?

Oh sorry! Thought we'd decided you were A525-ing it and I was heading straight back via Mold, which I did and got back bang on 2pm! I went back on the A494. Thought it was a slightly abrupt departure but then I'm not one for protracted goodbyes either Sitting here with my arm in a sling hoping that my very painful elbow and slightly numb hand is just a temporary inconvenience. Not a motorbike related injury. May have a problem if my clutch hand is out of action, I can only do upwards clutchless changes, make a right hash of downwards ones.
Llyn Brenig turn is before the old pub, and after the first small reservoir on the moor heading towards the A5. It is a good road, and great to ride both ways, can be a degree lower than surrounding areas, and has a couple of polished areas of tarmac, as it's one of the legs of the Evo triangle, which those followers believe are the only three good section of road haha. It should be called the lazy triangle, as not far away are some better, but at least we bikers can utilise them while the Carlos Fandango's do that route.
The part of the moor after that I rarely ride down really. But the other way every time it seems. Also the road on the left signed to Llansannan, at the bottom of the hill, just after the houses start. Another good road to ride both ways.
Out today 11 hours! Clatterbridge start, off to Hawarden, Dobshill, Mold road to Denbigh, onto the moor, past Llyn Brenig, to Cerigydrudion, Brekky! Right out of A5 café, 1st right toward Bala, straight across the road towards Lake Vernwy, much of the way down the road over the moors and took the last turn to the lake, and up to the café for coffee. Back to Bala the same way, fuel!
Out of Bala and up the A4212 towards Trawsfynnyd, but took the road on the right to Ffestinog over the moor, left at the end back onto the A470 but a right at the bottom, back towards Ffestinog, but left at the bottom of the hill to avoid town centre, up and over the Crimean Pass, down to Betwys Y Coed, and Capel Curig turn off to café on the corner, coffee and cake! Yum. Back out to Betwys, but left just after the start of the shops, over the river, to Llanrwst, right toward Abergele, much of the way, but taking the right before Talahairn towards Llansannan, back to Denbigh Moor, and A&D. Back out to the moor, up to Llyn Brenig again, left at Cerigydrudion to Ruthin, fuel. Out through the square, onto Ponderosa, coffee and pastie. Home via Llandegla and the moor, to Penyfford, and Dobshill, Hawarden, and bypass to Wirral, Heswall, fuel, telegraph road route to home.
If none of that makes sense never mind. Was on Repsol, dry day, one camera van on way in to Bala. All good, not too fast, but nice.
