What always gets to me when you see these guys making mere mortal TD riders look silly is the degrees of the scale going upwards, i.e.
- a TD instructor (or, say, a Club racer) can make you look silly when you're riding at 9.9 tenths and he's riding with one hand looking back at you
- a pro superbike racer would probably make that instructor/ club guy look silly
- most GP riders will raise the bar to yet another level (again, degrees, but you get the point)
Quite humbling really!
(yes, yes, I know there are exceptions to every rule, before you launch your keyboard-based Cruise missile or tell me about your mate down the pub who'd beat the GP aliens even if he was on a CG125....)
I know what you mean. I was at cadwell last year and i remember watching the fast group thinking id love to be that fast, then gary johnson went out to test his tt bike and he was in another league. - a TD instructor (or, say, a Club racer) can make you look silly when you're riding at 9.9 tenths and he's riding with one hand looking back at you

Ive been to watch bsb and moto gp but its hard to get a real life understanding of how much better they are until you see them riding along side.
Id like to think most people with enough experience and money to do enough trackdays could get into the bottom half of the fast group. But when you see proper racers they are just another breed. I guess early start in life coupled with no fear goes a long way.
I did an open pitlane TD a while back, was about a month before Le Mans. I think it was Kenny Foray (the other one is David Checa, would have recognised him) came past me on the brakes into a hairpin. I had fluffed it, was braking far later into the corner than my meagre abilities would otherwise allow, and he came past me sideways, at an unbelievable speed, left a fat black line all the way in, around the outside of my woeful carcass. Spoke to someone in a team jersey and apparently they had some last minute changes to shake down, so they had just turned up at the last minute.
st me right up, proper race bikes are really loud!

If you've ever ridden with Bob Collins (won the BSB superstock cup a while back), he has bike control that a lot of the BSB guys would be proud of. Backing it in a at silly speeds, fully crossed up on the exit, etc.st me right up, proper race bikes are really loud!
Was at Cartagena with Bob last May, and on his fully road legal GSXR1000 with "trackday" tyres (not slicks), and with the mirrors still on, he was putting in consistent 1.39s. A couple of Moto 2 boys were testing who were only doing 1.35s... However, having someone (Bob) come into pitlane and do a 40m rolling stoppie *into* their pit garage is both impressive and scary at the same time.

I have to say having watched that I'm a little anxious about jumping on my new steed now
What are you worried about???These bikes are a big step forward from the 2005 R1. And looking at that video you realise how the power is straight on, almost all or nothing. I know I will be fine once I've done a few laps on it
