Lee Costello around oulton.

He comments somewhere below saying the td organiser messed him up and put him in Inters.

Quality riding and it seems so calm despite squirming around. I always like watching videos of proper racers in direct comparison to us lesser humans

lol @ this

Can someone please get me a breakdown of what performance modifications were done to this bike..? I know 90% of that is rider-ability, but the power and the handling were outstanding, and I want to do that for my new bike too (just bought a (still brand new) 2013 ZX-10R last week)!!! Thanks

Would be nigh on impossible but Lincsblokey may well have an idea as he is quite familar with the Superstock rules that Lee rode to in 2012, although there is no confirmation that is is his full Superstock spec bike ....

How fast will you go on this new one in 1st gear ???

I can do the impossible and tell you it was stock 2012 zx10 with hm quick shifter and full akro system that's it....as he also commented on the video further down ha.

I love seeing the difference. And just how easy they make going fast seem.

2nd to 3rd gear changes and bike was just lifting up, impressive/scary stuff.

I think it was around 2008/9 when Guintoli was riding for Suzuki in the BSB, he was testing at Snetterton on a no limits track day and was in the fast group, he was on a road going GSXR1000 ( brand new) and he was amazing to watch from the pit wall, he just left the others for dead, and a few came off behind him trying to keep up with him IIRC.

A superstock 1000 kwak basically has a full system and power commander as engine mods, and 3K of suspension.

And that's where the real difference lies...

Thing is, the suspension only really matters when your going at lap record pace. It's also about getting decent tyre life and consistent.

I'm sure a top bsb rider could murder me with standard road suspension.

It was his superstock zx10.

fork carts, rear shock, full system, shifter.

All part of a stocker,

In reference to the chap above asking the difference between his zx10 and a superstock one, theres the above And then the little things

Castletted caliper pistons & Brembo Discs (known weak point on the kwaks)

full 'blueprint' (mainly making sure everythings within tolerance, weight match pistons & rods)

gearing (the stock zx10 ratios, both gearbox & final drive are woeful)

Hours & Hours on a dyno

bla bla bla.

(lets not mention flashed ECU's or dicky linkages though)

As for pace, i guess we will find out at Oulton Hottrax Endurance when two fairly well known BSB brothers take a pair of ZX7R's out and see just how far up the grid they can get...

Are they permitted to change the primary drive ratio and gearbox ratios??

Impressive vid, and to be fair the result would have been much the same in the advanced group of most track days.

The bike control these guys have makes you feel like a right nobber when you're going as fast as you dare and they come flying round the outside like you're standing still with the bike making all sorts of shapes.

Everything about his riding just makes me want to go and hide under a rock. His line and full on throttle through the last left hander onto the pit straight is unreal.......

Would have been bloody awesome to be out in his group and just see him come past like that.......and then wait a minute or two and see it again.....and again.....

Having seen the likes of Gary Johnson, Gary Mason, Hudson Kennaugh & plenty of other fast national riders, I know that they would annihalate most all mortal people on a standard road bike without tuning or exotic suspension.

The thing is, when they do get on a top bit of kit, they are able to raise the pace to get the full potential out of it.

That vid is a great example of how to do Oulton. The pass over the crest after the bridge & the SRAD at turn 1 were a little dodgy, but bloody hell that was fast & smooth.

Only allowed to change final drive.

Point was more that it's a known bugbear of the bike. Massively over geared,

I'll have a look at the video later, but Lee is currently to be found riding an RS50 on a CBT around the roads near me. We had a bit of a laugh last year on the road, when he was in his Astra VXR and I was toying with him on the HP4. He's determined to out ride me round Rivington this year on his RS50 to prove a point. The bet has been laid down too, so I've got to keep out of his way, or hang my head in shame forever hehe

I enjoyed watching that.

Just goes to show how much more confidence / ability these sort of riders have to brake later and harder and well shown in this vid get on the throttle early.

Takes a lot of skill and a a lot bigger set of plumbs than ive got.

Not sure if you remember but the guy we kept bumping into on our last ride last year was the team owner that Lee was riding for then.

What always gets to me when you see these guys making mere mortal TD riders look silly is the degrees of the scale going upwards, i.e.

- a TD instructor (or, say, a Club racer) can make you look silly when you're riding at 9.9 tenths and he's riding with one hand looking back at you
- a pro superbike racer would probably make that instructor/ club guy look silly
- most GP riders will raise the bar to yet another level (again, degrees, but you get the point)

Quite humbling really!

(yes, yes, I know there are exceptions to every rule, before you launch your keyboard-based Cruise missile or tell me about your mate down the pub who'd beat the GP aliens even if he was on a CG125....)
