Some on the R1 group are getting prices of $15,000 (or less) for the non M version in the US, on the road. Surely once the hype has died down, there would be some discount available.

Eh? What has the price in a country with a completely different taxation structure got to do with discounts here?New video:

Far better looking 'in the flesh' but still no oil painting - some very fussy looking features from exhaust valve cable routing to big gaps under pillion seat area and a strange silver coloured paint on the engine (reminds me of old die cast toys from decades ago once the paint had flaked off...)
You bought an S1000RR that looked like it had a stroke !As long as the engine stays working, unlike S1000RR and the many fault codes you have to keep looking up on the RSV4.
Funny that the first thing you had a look at was the water pipe fastenings !

Got demo rides on an S1000 and RSV4 before choosing them bit that's going to be difficult on the R1 - I need Tight to buy one and give me a go before final judgement
Does that mean i'll (eventually) have a go on the RSV ?legzr1 said:
Oh, disc carriers on the red version - NO!
Almost as chavvy as the wheel rim stickers and slightly tacky decals.
Told ya !Almost as chavvy as the wheel rim stickers and slightly tacky decals.

Tall seat (not quite as tall as the RSV4) and VERY firm damping - I'm not the lightest of riders and there was barely any perceivable sag.
Didn't want to say owt !fergus said:

I was also surprised by the seat height. On my GSXR1000K6 I can get two feet flat on the ground, my KTM525EXC the ball of one foot, on the R1 pretty much just the toes of one foot.
Are you a child?Moulder said:

Are you a child?I sat on one this morning, and as I'm the other end of the height spectrum, found it surprisingly roomy, after expecting it to be the size of an R6.... food for thought.

All was forgiven after a test ride - gonna be difficult if they aren't available with the R1 As long as the engine stays working, unlike S1000RR and the many fault codes you have to keep looking up on the RSV4.

Maybe to get an idea of how much profit might be in the bike for px-ing etc, bad maths I know. If $15,000 is around £10,000, add 20% and thats way below what its selling for here.Moulder said:
I am not a young Herve Villechaize or Rusty Goffe. My point was that as sports bikes have become smaller I was surprised how high the seat height was especially as they have moved away from an under seat exhaust to lower the centre of gravity, perching me on top of it seems counter intuitive to this.
Don't they still need some weight to load the tyres for grip under braking/acceleration ?Too low down and you'll just push the front/spin the rear.

Not even a nibble !I'm starting to really like the look of the new R1.
The fact that some people really don't like them makes me like them even more !
Gotta be a blue one, tho !
OR
That looks incredible.
I don't think they look like a new generation bike mind. The front reminds me of a 04 cbr with race fairings with an r6ish exhaust. I do like the panigale style rear though.
None of those are bad things as I like all those bikes but it just doesn't look massively new already.

To be fair there was no sag in the suspension as I sat on it but even with a few centimetres of sag my arse would still be knitting buttons leaving Rykers car park.
In terms of looks it actually looked a lot better in real life than in the pictures.
after having another sit on it at a bike do last night i think some of the problem for me (5ft 6) is the width of the seat. for all the current blade is a fair bit bigger than the latest and greatest, the seat width is a lot narrower, and the seat on the panigale is a razor blade in comparison. In terms of looks it actually looked a lot better in real life than in the pictures.
