I've just had some Pirelli Angel GT tyres fitted. Can anyone please explain why the front tyres are fitted with the tread pattern in the opposite direction to the rear tyres?

No, but I think they're good tyres.

Google says they are deffo right way round but i cant answer your question

Its to do with the forces - acceleration on the rear is one way, braking on the the front is the opposite direction. Possibly connected with the tyre construction too.

I still have a part used pair of them that I bought & never fitted if anybody's after a cheap pair. They only had 2-300 miles use for assessment by Triumph.

Bought them for my ST1050 but then changed bikes rolleyes

This.

At the most extreme, acceleration has 100% of the force on the rear, better known as a wheelie. Similarly, under severe braking 100% of the load is on the front, also known as a stoppie. Obviously you can have 100% load (or thereabouts) without the bike being at a 45 degree angle to the horizontal - I'm not suggesting that they're optimised for showboating wink

Interesting.

I thought tread was more for water dispersion.
Also, why are RWD cars not fitted with similar opposing tread directions?

I've sent an email to Pirelli. We'll see what they come back with.

Unable to say. As I implied, they never got fitted, so the 2/300 miles were done by Triumph factory. They were bought as alternatives to the Storm 2 Ultras on the Trumpet for when they wore out.
