Bike Valuation Please.
Discussion
Hi all. A friend was unlucky to have his bike written off last week, when a lorry driver rear ended him at traffic lights.
Having gone through the claims process myself, I want to ensure that he gets a fair price for his bike.
It's a BMW R1200GS (Not the Adventure model) 61 plate, 36,500 miles full service history, immaculate condition and one previous owner.
If anyone could give an accurate valuation on replacement value, I would be grateful.
Cheers!
Tim

Sarcasm, well done. I've already tried that, but none of the models for sale match the spec closely enough to gain an accurate value.
what's with the rolly eyes?? you haven't provided a specification either so what should we go on?? If you are going to come here asking stupid questions then expect stupid answers in return.
And what makes you think we'd know the value when you seem to be struggling to find out? ?
its worth 2 grand. There you go...
8k ish I'd guess? Depending wether you are looking at a private or a dealer sale price. There isn't a Fixed value though is there? It's the old cliche that it's worth what someone will pay on the day.
Did you get an estimate from a bmw dealer? IE ask them for a written quote of what they'd retail the bike at, as that's what your mate would have to pay to replace it.

All of the bikes for sale are either different years, miles, or Adventure models. The question wasn't aimed at the general biking fraternity, but as on the car forums, there's usually a Dealer or two who may be able to help.If you are going to come here asking stupid questions then expect stupid answers in return.

Sorry to have wasted 10 seconds of your time reading my post...

Thanks for the reply. He's been a little pre-occupied with his injuries, but I did mention to him going along that route. Was just looking for a second opinion.Did you get an estimate from a bmw dealer? It would be a Dealer price, thanks.
Write off values are very simple. It is the average of the three main trade guides (or less if they're the only ones providing a value). If any guide is significantly out (higher or lower) then this can also be discounted.
Adverts are not particularly persuasive, as they expect the purchaser to negotiate the price down a little
All of the above is the way all UK insurers do write off valuations for all vehicles. It has been for years, since the FOS came out with this as an expected approach.
Most of the people who say the value is too low, are the same people who believe their house is worth more than next door because "it's nicer and got better decor".
