TL1000R Vs 999S Vs RSVR (maybe Tuono)
Discussion
4500 could get you an OK SP1 but it'll need a bit of fettling in terms of injection and setup. Plus you'll want exhaust if it doesn't come with them.
Jumping on it is always an event at the moment as I only had it since January.
oh, and I'm expecting many Christmas cards filled with admiration from the neighbours this year.

IMHO depends what you want from a bike and how you ride it but as much (retro) love there is for the TL-R, IMHO its not a patch on a 999 or RSVR in terms of excitement and handling, seriously, they where more Hayabusa than the GSXR750 of the same period...
Best advice I can give is too get a test ride on them to make yoru own comparison

I've got a TLR but haven't ridden the others so can't really compare them. However, I can tell you that I love my TLR It's reliable, fast, sounds awesome, has a brilliantly useful hump to store stuff in and I prefer the curvy looks to the more pointy modern bikes. It's even good on fuel, especially compared with the SP1/SP2 (from what I've read, at least). I've taken it on track and it performed well there, although it definitely needs more effort to throw around than my GSXR 600.
The only downsides that I've encountered over the last 5 years and ~20k miles are that it's a bit heavy and the clutch lever is very heavy, so slipping the clutch whilst filtering around town can get a bit tiring after you've been at it a while.
Mine's in bits in the garage at the mo as the cam chain is rattling a bit, but hopefully a new adjuster spring will sort it out. I'm struggling to think of any other reliability issues I've had. I replaced the rear shock as it was a bit knackered, but I never found it deserving of the TLS's "widow maker" nickname.

Another Tuono Gen1 vote, get one while you still can, the R limited, Racing or Factory versions with the Ohlins and the rest of the trick bits. Awesome bikes, like you I don't get much time but I do commute to work through nice lanes in the summer. They are awesome and all the bike you'd ever need really.
Here's mine, an '02 RSV-R Limited;
