As it is free I have put an advert in but am curious as to whether anyone has had any success with selling on there lately?

I've advertised loads of bikes on pH classifieds but have never had a single enquiry from it, the classifieds section is rubbish to be honest, but is free to sell bikes so is worth listing in the off chance somebody might actually look at it.

eBay classified ad with best offer has always got the bike sold, is worth the £15 they charge.

Cheers for the reply. It was likely to be autotrader for bikes or Ebay as my next option.

I sold my Honda PCX scooter on there last summer to someone local to me. I got more response on there than anywhere else....
However, in general Ebay does seem to be taking over vehicle classifieds as it has in the auction space.

My VFR has been there for a while with no calls, it's been on Autotrader too with the same result.

I think living near Aberdeen may be having an effect though!

Good job it is free then as it appears to be fairly useless as a means of advertising.......

If you think about what you need as a seller - it's people seeing your advert. No disrespect but 3/4 of the country won't have even heard of pistonheads, let alone looked on it's classifieds. Whereas 99% of people will have heard of ebay, and clearly millions of people look at it.

I found my ZRX through a PH advert. It's always worth a look, though there is a lot more choice on ebay or the Trader. Ebay still feels to me like a slightly less trustworthy place to buy or sell, rightly or wrongly. I'm always on my guard a lot more with ebay transactions than anywhere else.

PH adverts always seem to feature higher prices too. Not sure if that's because the quality of the vehicles for sale is better for any reason, or just the sellers are leaving themselves more haggling room.

I think bikes in general take time to sell. When i bought recently i had all the time in the world to choose as nothing was getting snapped up.

I have to admit I have the same reservations about selling on ebay or even buying.

Out of curiosity though I will put it up on ebay and see if it gives a different response.

eBay is also mostly useless for selling bikes, as it's no longer a place people go to buy, only to graze. I have my 1199R for sale there at the moment and I have loads of watchers and about a squillion views (and not only because my advert features the word 'minge', though that's probably helping) but not a single enquiry, despite it being the lowest price & lowest mileage bike for sale. All I ask is that someone give me all their money. Is that really so much to ask?

PMSL you really did create some advert there.

Anyway back to the real world, how do you/we sell a bike?

  • I have considered the MCN pages but find the whole idea of 'paper' so last year. Is it still a good channel for bike sales?
  • PH is possibly the least read classifieds in the universe? I sold my 997 Porsche on here years ago but my Lexus and my Toyota gained no interest at all. My R1 might as well be a pound for all the interest it is generating.
  • Ebay _ The damn place scares me but I did have to resort to it this week, to sell a watch and despite the lack of initial enthusiasm the price wasn't terrible.
  • Autotrader - Not many bikes for sale on there and but every car I have put up there recently has garnered some interest and eventually sold.

Question? Anything Better?

War and peace looks like a pamphlet in comparison. Great prose.
